I wanted to become a reserve office for my local Newport Beach Police Department. I was, however, convicted of a wet reckless charge in January of 2005 and will be finishing my informal probation in January of 08. Can anybody tell me if I am still qualified or do I have to wait 10 years when the DUI can no longer count as a prior?
For all those people writing judgemental answers...I received this conviction and paid my dues. Both monetarily and emotionally. I have established a neighborhood designated driver system to prevent drinking and driving and have never even considered drinking and driving again. Within the 2 years since my conviction I have also lost a close friend to a drunk driver. DO YOU THINK I HAVE LEARNED MY LESSON? I pray to God I never hurt myself or anybody else in the past. So instead of you ASSES that tell me I shouldn't consider doing anything to better my life like being a reserve officer (WHICH MEANS COMMUNITY AND NON-PAID) I think you should reconsider your own lives and think about whether you have ever made a mistake.

Please advise I made a mistake and now I have to pay for it.. I just want this to be over.. I am quiting drinking altogether.

Will I have to serve Jail time or can I get community service?

Can I get a restricted license? How long will my license be suspended?

How much will the fine be?

Should I get a lawyer or use the court appointed lawyer?

The situation is this:

I received a Minor DUI in WA state which is defined as:
- Driver under 21 with BAC over .02 and under .08 (which is classified as a misdemeanor)

I've moved to Texas since that mistake and am looking to get a Texas license.. The incident incurred a 90-day license suspension period in WA, which is already up. How does this play out?

Will I be eligible here in Texas?

Do I need to have an SR-22? My insurance company hasn't yet gotten wind of the infraction so I'm still insured normally, will the Texas DPS notify my insurance company?

If it were possible I'd like to just apply as a brand new applicant, like I've never had a license, but looking over the application where they ask if you've had a license in another state, short of lying (which is a felony i think), it doesn't seem that will be possible. I assume that they run checks on your name or social security number in other states?

What other things should I know and/or consider?

I spoke with my former public defender, she stated it was a mistake and I should write a letter.

Is this all that I can do, how do I get this corrected immediately, Should I hire a lawyer to write the letter or make a call?

I recently got awarded a DUI... and I feel like I've been going downhill ever since. But what I am here for is to ask this question...

What can I do to avoid paying double to triple (0-0/month) on insurance costs? Can I move to a different state to avoid such robbery?

I never realized just how dependant I was to my car in order to even function as an adult in society... I really need an answer that will help... thanks...
Everybody, I know you all look down upon me instantly because I have a DUI. I know my mistake. I have already learned from it. I'm never touching alchohol and driving again. I have to hear this every time I even mention it.

I was actually coming to pick up a friend who was too drunk to drive when I got cited. Be it a good deed or not, I'm still getting punished for it and I feel terrible. Every single day I am getting more and more depressed. Please, I came here for your help, not your hate.

i got arrested and charged with a dui and a ticket failure to use due care.

i live in fort lauderdale florida and was wondering if anyone knew of a good attorney.

I did NOT take the sobriety test. I told the officer I would not do anything without my lawyer.

I dont know if that was a smart move or not, but i know I wouldn't of passed the test.

What are my options looking like?

the accidet was i went over the curb and across a few lanes on the other side of the road. the cops gave me a road test which i didnt pass too well, didnt fall or anything. i told the police i did have a few drinks. someone saw the me go across the lanes, it wasnt that i was pulled over randomly or anything like that. and when the police showed up i was even driving i was just sitting in the parking spaces i stopped in.

for those who think of me as a bad person, i do understand and respect that. i did make a mistake and yes im thankful to god that nobody got hurt and myself second. but i just think about who i could of hurt, or hit another car. it was 2 in the a.m and i was coming home from the bar. did make a mistak i do admit. but im hoping for some leinency, because i am human. i do make mistakes, but i do learn from them. i am a very respectful person, i work hard and just was out on a tuesday night because i cant go out any other nightreally because of work and such other obligations. im not asking forcriticism i am a very hard person on myself and expect great things from me. this is just abump in the road and i do apologize to everyone once again.
