I was convicted of a DUI and soon I'll be eligible for a resticted license. I have to have an ignition interlock device installed, and file an SR-22 with my insurance company (Anchor General Insurance). I have not told them yet as I am not yet eligible. I called and they said that they do accept people with DUIs. I am currently paying per month for full coverage. I'm male, 29 years old. How much can I expect my insurance cost to rise once I file the SR-22?

does insurance company get off the hook in this dui accident case?

i was in an automobile accident with a drunk driver. the district attorney is making him pay my out of pocket expenses out of his pocket before he can get his license back. if he pays these bills out of his pocket, does his insurance company get off the hook? he had insurance at the time of the accident and i am curious...if i sue for pain and suffering, will the claim amount include all the medical bills even if they have been paid already?
thank you for your response. i guess my question is more about insurance. it seems weird that he paid money to be insured but now he is the one who has to pay. Not sticking up for his actions by any means but I think the insurance company gets off easy in this case. Not trying to get money...just trying to understand the insurance world. cheers

Best car insurance for DUI?

I'm 18 I got a DUI october 2009 when I was 17. As a minor I got no tolerance license suspension for a year no exceptions. I had state farm insurance who will no longer
cover me. I'm getting a new car sometime when my year is up but I NEED to know what
the most affordable insurance company is!

Insurance question about DUI (2 different insurance companies). Underwriters, chime in!?

I received a 1st time DUI roughly 1 year ago. I am covered by one insurance company, and my wife is covered by another company on her car. I know my insurance will not be renewed or rates will increase at some point, but what about hers???

I am NOT listed as an insured driver on her policy, but I am noted as a licensed driver in the household for her car... Will her insurance be effected??

It seems like they are not sure what will happen with her insurance and that it would be left up to the underwriters... Any input would be helpful... Thankyou.
Basically, we have 2 cars. On our Honda (her insurance), we just bought out our lease, and put both of our names on the loan to purchase the car... Her insurance company got wind of this and saw my name. They ran it, and the DU came up. Again, I am not listed as a driver and am not listed under her policy... ONLY as another driver in the household. I wasn't worried about hers at first, but her company requested that I send a copy of proof of my insurance to them (for what, I don't know)... I am just hoping she is not effected by this???
Question for S (if you want to answer): What company? and did they find out about it and let it slide, or just not find out? I have been with mine for almost 20 years.
MARGARITA...

I live in NJ. my wife has state farm and i have allstate. I am not on her registration> Any other input would help. Or, do you know who I could talk to without prompting either of the companies to further look into my record... You've been a great help... any further assistance would be great!

Boyfriend has DUI, how does that affect my insurance?

My boyfriend and I (common law) have been living together for a little over a year. last november he lost his license for driving and driving, he lost it for a year and he gets it back next week.
We both have our own vehicles, Im insured on his but hes not insured on mine (got my policy before we started living together) and he does NOT drive my vehicle.
My question is, my insurance is up for renewal and I don't want this to affect mine, but I was told if you live in the same house as someone with a DUI it will make your insurance go up as well.
What can I do? We live in Canada, if that helps..I know things are different in the states.
if you live with a boyfriend/girlfriend for more than 12 months, or have a child together you are considered, by the government as common law.
And Im aware if hes not insureed on my car hes not covered, he doesnt drive my car so thats not the issue. The issue is I was told by my insurance company that since I live with him, my insurance will go up, even if he doesnt drive the vehicle at all. Im wondering if there is a way around this, legally.
Oh and eagle keeper, he will have a valid licence as of this time next week. The insurance company told me this morning that they need the names/master numbers of all drivers in the household and its affected by new drivers and drivers with a DUI.

if I wreck my car while DUI does the insurance company still Fully cover it?

just a curious question.
if you are drunk and total your car, nobody else or other property involved, does the insurance company still cover your car to full value? and what source do they use to determine the value of the vehicle?

Can insurance companies adjust your liability limits after an accident?

If a driver in an accident was found to be knowingly and voluntarily participating in either an illegal or irresponsible accident and that led to the accident (i.e. DUI, speeding, talking on the cell phone, etc...), can insurance companies lower the coverages that person has because of these actions? Do any insurance companies build this into their policies?
This applies to the accident at hand, not future policies, not future termination. Insurance companies have the right to cancel your policy at any time and if you get into an accident and get a DUI then odds are you're going to have your policy cancelled, but you were insured at the time of the accident so that accident is still covered.

For example, if i have 100/300 coverage and cause 0,000 worth of damage. A traditional policy would cover that regardless of the state of the driver at time of incident, and then may cancel you after but because you were insured at the time it will be covered. Are there companies out there who, upon hearing that the cause of the accident was a DUI on the part of their insured, would lower the liability limits to 10/50 and thus only ,000 of the 0,000 worth of damage that was caused in the accdient is paid by the insurance company, the other 0,000 is the burden of the insured?

I am about to loss my car insurance in a year because of a dui?

But i am about to go into the ard program and i will be able to exempt it off my record..does this mean i will be able to find another insurance company and not have to tell them about my dui..or since i told them that they will all know?

Would an auto insurance company have a reason to ignore the fact of having an incorrect VIN Number?

I got a dui years ago and have now saved enough to buy my car and get it on the road. The risk of my age and record, I found myself going through an insurance company that looks like it literally has holes in the wall. Their advertisement is that they will accept anyone. And they will for the month to month price they can get. I noticed they copied down the wrong vin number for my vehicle. They stated that it was not important for sr22's. I had some spare time later and went back with the correct one written down for them to copy. In front of me they wrote down the wrong number off the sheet I handed them. "well okay... I'm just going to write down this". "it shouldn't be a problem" Is basically what they said to me during the process. is there any reason they would avoid using correct info? Or is it really just not that important?
(PS The number on my mailed insurance cards is incorrect and I just wrecked the car last week).
