My roommate just got a DUI last night and I had to experience the chilling 3am phone call.... anyway, she's ok and they let me pick her up from the Police Station instead of making her spend the night in jail. The thing is, when she was 17 or 18 she got a wet & reckless (She's 22 now), she can't remember if she was a minor or not when she got it. I'm thinking if she was 17 when it happened it would be wiped off her record & this will be her first & only offense, but if its still on her record, does anyone know the consequences she will face? Will this count as her 2nd DUI? Any jail time? She's never been in trouble with the law before besides those 2 times. ...... Please no rude comments, I am merely trying to get some more information for her until her court date next month. Thanks guys!

Got a DUI a few weeks back. I blew a .083 which is only .03 over the limit. However they were under the impression that I was using marijuana, I had not been that day. They gave me a drug test and I will probably fail because i did smoke like four days straight a few days before. I know if I fail I will not be eligible for a work permit to drive on but do you know any extra consequences I may be facing? Thanks!
Ok first answer I know for a fact just for a regular DUI here in the state of GA you lose your license for 4 months but thank you for answering. I am expecting it to be worse than that but hey if that is right I would be very happy!

Drinking And Driving Consequences - What Every Person Needs To Understand About The Legal Ramifications Of Drunk Driving

Author: Colin Daives

Most people understand that drinking and driving is a dangerous combination. Not just for the driver who has been drinking but his passengers and all those who share the road with him. Pedestrians are included in this factor. In the United States, four out of 10 fatal accidents are attributed to alcohol. Approximately 25,000 people die and another 708,000 are injured in collisions where alcohol was a contributing factor; this averages to be about 500 people every week, 70 people a day. When looking at the statistics, half of every American will be in some kind of accident involving alcohol at some point in their life. Even with these statistics, this happens every day around us. It's those people who have been drinking that fail to remember the probable consequences and decide to drive anyway.

On top of people losing their lives and/or the injuries that are sustained in a car accident, there are other extensive consequences drunk drivers can cause. Some consequences are financial along with physical. For instance, based on a recent study, American taxpayers typically pay to billion every year for drunk driving. According to the National Geographic magazine, alcohol abuse in the United States cost 6 million every year.

If you've been involved in a automobile accident where the other driver was drunk, you could be entitled to receive compensation. Any settlements that come from this kind of accident will cover for medical treatments, lost employment wages and emotional suffering. If your case heads to court, you could also get punitive damages. These damages are meant to punish the offender and discourage them to repeat their behavior. If you're in a vehicle accident where alcohol is involved with the other driver, you need to speak with a car accident attorney. Your attorney will be able to hold the drunk driver accountable for all damages and injuries sustained in the accident. However, if a drunk driver killed someone you loved, you will need a wrongful death lawyer. The money you are compensated won't bring them back but it could keep the person from drinking and driving ever again. You don't want to let a drunk driver go because they'll only endanger the lives of other people. Make sure to hold them accountable for their actions.

Drunk driving can have very real deep effects for the people who are injured but also the survivors of those who are killed. However, it can also have a deep effect on the drunk driver. When a driver who has been drinking causes an accident, it can have serious, long-term legal consequences. On top of settling claims for the injured parties, they may face a number of judiciary charges. First, there's the DUI arrest they must deal with including the license suspension and fines. Then other charges may include: wrongful death, fleeing, reckless driving, resisting arrest, etc. All of these charges will need the assistance of an experienced DUI attorney. Along with all the legal ramifications they must deal with, the driver will handle the guilt they feel for destroying other people's lives. The best way to protect yourself and other people from drunk drivers is to never drink and drive.

I am currently serving a 60 day sentence of house arrest for a DUI. I know that what I did was completely wrong and that I should pay for it. My bus ride to and from work is over 2 hours long, and since probation was not happy about this, I offered to take a taxi home from work everyday (they didn't care about the morning, since chances are I would not be getting into trouble at 5:30 am!)

I realized today after taking the taxi for the first time that the fare was , and I therefore would be paying 00 to the taxi company when all is said and done! I don't have that kind of money! In addition, the taxi company said that they can not guarantee that a taxi would be there for me at the exact time I need them- they only do that for flights and similar situations.

My question is...should I call probation and tell them the problem? I have a receipt from the taxi ride. Also, if I take the bus, I can guarantee that I will be home when I'm supposed to.

Again, I understand that I must suffer the consequences of my actions, but this will kill me financially. Is it worth me calling them or not?
There is no court order...but I had to do community service about a week ago. We were all let out an hour early, and the supervisor told us not to go home for at least an hour so that the bracelet would not register that we were home- resulting in him and everyone else getting in trouble. I ran to home depot and who did I see? One of the probation officers! Although we all waited to go home, I was the one who got caught, and therefore the trust factor has been largely diminished. Bottom line is, I will certainly not risk going to any other store or anywhere again, since I will loose everything if I do! But again, I also can't afford to pay for a taxi everyday!
