Will I still be able to join the police dept in DC if I have a few small things on my record?

I got a DUI and a marijuana charge a little over 5 years ago. I have prior military experience, work for the dept. of defense, and have nothing else on my record. Any chance? ...

Here is my recommendation-go to their website. Most of the larger department will have quite an extensive site. There should be information pertaining to hiring requirements. If you have no luck or the requirements are not descriptive enough, call the recruiting officer for the police dept. Of course you have a chance. Remain confident and be honest. Good luck!

Yes. However, you will be subject to more scrutiny and expect to answer repeated questions about your alcohol and drug use during the interview process.

You have to see what the policy is, and the only way you would be able to find out is to call the human resource dept.

Well it depends on what is on your record. The marijuana charge will probably be dropped but a DUI charge although it does not carry a criminal offense on your first violation you may have a problem with considering the charge. It also depends on your age at the time of your DUI. You background investigator might be able to work with you.
