Why marijuana should or should not be legal?

Im seeing a lot of post on this subject. Some good and some bad. Ive done a lot of research on the matter and finding that a lot of us are misinformed the subject. The plant if legalized nationally could cut the budget in a lot of states a lot especially with the prison population. Ive researched the medical benefits on the plant and for some it would help a lot and for others it would do nothing but recreational like beer. In my opinion the drug companies don't want this herb legal because it does help in many different ways in the medical field. Many would stop taking nasua pills, pain pills, and ect.
This would be a great herb for MS and Fibromialgia patients since pain pills don't help them at all. This herb in my studies, by talking to those who use and have used in the past, relaxes the mussels and the brain. There is not proof that it kills brain cells. Maybe slows them down while under the influence. I also believe that the herb would help bipolar and some other mental disorders for those who are hi strung to slow them down enough to a almost normal state, so they wouldn't have to take so many dangerous pills, that damage there liver.
Now for the governments bull on it slows reflexes down enough to hit someone in a car accident. Well my opinion on that is what it is bull. There is no proof on that either. If it was mandated like beer and cigarettes where I don't think we would have any issues on that. They could only at this time do a road side celebrity test like if you where under the influence of medication. If you fell the test because you cant follow the pin or walk straight then you would get a DUI. I have never heard of anyone running over a child or hitting someone head one on the interstate because if marijuana, but I have with alcohol. These are just my opinions and I want some chatter about what you all think.
to add on the comments on, "how can we tell how hi or how can we tell if someone is hi at the time they are driving" Simple "how can we tell if someone is taking prescription drugs at the time they are driving" If they cant pass a simple on the road celebrity test then they are under the influence." those laws are already in effect. At least in Missouri they are. I take a lot of meds. but wait two hours before I drive how ever I don't take narcotics. They don't help my condition at all. I do take a mild low does muscle relaxer though, which could get me a DUI if I where to drive with in a two hour period. So I either don't drive or I make my husband drive. My state is DUI happy with perception drugs. So yes there's ways they already that they can tell.

The so-called "dangers" of MJ are mostly exaggerated, overblown and without factual basis.

One very real obstacle, however, is how long it stays in the system. We obviously don’t want people driving when high, and stuff like that. How do we test to see if someone is actually high, or if they were high fairly recently, but not now? Currently it’s an easy thing because any THC or the metabolites in the system mean you were using, which is completely illegal.

If it’s legal, but we don’t want people doing certain things under the influence, that becomes logistically tricky. In addition to measuring if they’re high at all, how do we measure how high?

It should be decriminalized, if not legalized completely, but there are some practical hurdles to how we’d deal with it. It is, in the end, an intoxicant.

Edit: Actually, your addendum is incorrect, and, please note, I am for decriminalization or possibly complete legalization, I’m just pointing out a very real logistical hurdle.

The "stupid human tricks," aka a field sobriety test, is NOT proof of intoxication. What that establishes is probable cause to arrest and/or administer a real blood alcohol test, whether that be a breathalyzer or a blood sample being drawn. Failing the stupid human tricks is not proof of intoxication in a court of law. However, most states changed their laws to make refusing a blood alcohol test illegal or a default admission of guilt, to get around this hurdle.

In the case of prescription drugs, again those are usually carried in the blood, and metabolized out, so a blood test would show whether you were under the influence of those drugs or not. MJ/THC gets stored by your body in the body fat, so signs of it stick around for a much longer time than the actual psychoactive effects do.

So, you still need some way to test of intoxication, that won’t snag people who aren’t high, which is my main concern.

Its beenficial, but i dont want it to be legal because it’s gonna get expensive and of lesser quality

That is a very common question now adays and for reasons why it shouldnt would be reckless indangerment. Getting hi always has its lows because you cant really control yourself. But it think it should be legalised because of the fact that there is so much crime because of it. most crimes today are for drugs and if it is legalised that crime rate will drastically go down. there are also alot of deaths over all kinds of drugs and while others may be to extreme to be legalised i dont think that marijuana is one of them.

I think it should be legal. here is a link you might want to look at.

As far as I’m concerned Marijuana is no more dangerous as Alcohol. I believe that as adults we should have as much right to smoke Marijuana as we do to have a stiff drink. I think it should be legalized, and that the age limit should be the same as alcohol. And driving under the influence is driving under the influence not matter WHAT is in you system. I just think that if legalization happens, people should be prepared to deal with the higher chances of drug testing that will follow.

Other than that, all I can say is smoke responsibly. Just like anything else.

I use on occasion (that means roughly every month or so).

    1. taxing pot would boost the economy.
    2. mexican al copones would be out of business.
    3. kids would not have access to pot unless they were of age.
    4. pot helps people with medical needs.
    5. pot is not a gateway drug, people that use crack & heroin
    use crack & heroin.

It is a medicine. I had depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. I started smoking daily, or at least 4 times a week, and this has been going on for about 2 months. I have been happier then I have ever been before. Not because I’m oblivious now, but when I smoke it calms my anxiety down(just how dangerous pills would–ive had some really bad side effects from them) and it helps me think more rationally. I am able to work out all of my mental problems and situations while high, and I still feel good when I’m sober. Life has never been so good before! The only negative side effects I’ve had from smoking are occasional nuasea, and an occasional cough. Other then that I feel great, and honestly it has made me feel smarter. I’m doing well in school now because I can focus on my work, and it allows me to take my time with little details.

Marijuana should be legalized, taxed and regulated just like alcohol. If and when that happens look for states to rake in huge tax revenues. Also look to see Mexican drug cartels loosing a lot of business.

If marijuana is legalized I highly doubt everybody and their brother is going to rush out and get stoned. You’re going to have people who’ll never touch the stuff and you still going to have some folks continue to smoke way more than they should.

As far as the downsides go well I look at it this way. Marijuana is a mind altering substance and as such is not for everybody. Still the same can be said for alcohol. Society is always going to have escapists, people who for some reason or another choose to spend as much of their existence as possible in a drug induced haze.

You can’t blame marijuana for that the same way you can’t blame alcoholic beverages for the damage alcoholics do to themselves and society. Remember at one time our federal government tried to ban alcoholic beverages for that very same reason, it was called the Volstead Act, more commonly known as prohibition.

Prohibition was a disaster. Despite stiff penalties for the manufacture, sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages people continued to drink and mobsters like Al Capone became rich powerful crime bosses from the proceeds they hauled in from the sales of illegal liquor.

As a matter of fact I see the current anti marijuana laws in much the same light as prohibition. Despite the law pot is everywhere and people continue to get high. Only real difference is instead of Chicago based mobsters you’ve got Mexican drug cartels calling the shots.

When I was younger and more stupid, I got high and drove as a lot of people have done and continue to do. It was very difficult for me to drive while high and I did not do it very well. Yes, I had an accident so I must be that one and only person in the world who got high and had an accident. I didn’t hurt anyone, but if sober, it never would have happened. This is the one reason why pot should not be legalized no matter what other reasons you have for making it legal. We do not need more DUI drivers on the road and legalizing it just makes it easier to get. Your reasoning makes no sense because by the time someone figures out a driver is DUI, it’s too late. Most of the time people already had the accident and people are hurt and/or dead. That little DUI charge doesn’t mean all that much to those dead and hurt individuals.
