Why is Marijuana Illegal.. I'll rebut your best?
Case 1: Marijuana is unhealthy because you are smoking
Rebuttal: Yes, Marijuana is unhealthy if smoked. I know you have all heard the case 100x over but just to remind you; alcohol and tobacco are very legal substances and have been PROVEN to cause cancer by multiple institution, this research is undisputed. Also if Marijuana is used in a vaporizer, such as the volcano or vaporbrothers device, the drug is literally harmless, the only effects serious long term effects then are increased heart rate (has caused cardiac arrest in a few RARE cases), and disputable research claiming Marijuana use is linked to schizophrenia and other psychological disorders.
Case2: Marijuana is a DRUG, in general communities don’t like drugs
Rebuttal: …. shut up.. caffeine is a much more powerful and potent drug (drug/mL2). YES it would look bad, very bad, for a local or national government to legalize a substance that has already been outlawed for its ‘outrageous side effects and dangerous potential’ but at the same time is it ethically right to keep something outlawed if it is less harmless than something that IS legal.
Case 3: Legalizing Marijuana would cause social and economical disorder not only locally but nationally as well.
Rebuttal: Although this is a VERY unprovable accusation, I have come across this in my search for answers about pot, so I’ll rebut it. People think weed will cause social disorder? THIS JUST IN over 83 million kids have already admitted to using pot, note this does not include those who have used and not told (a large % because children are not about to admit to administrators that they have used drugs). Although the legalization might cause a small inflation in the % of children that try pot, those effects would hardly be long term. Look at alcohol, it is a lethal drug that has been ‘OTC’ legalized and it has not caused noticeable social destruction. As for an economic collapse?… probably not. YES it would be difficult for our economy to just "legalize" a billion dollar industry with the snap of a finger but it is VERY possible. Not only would the economy flourish with people spending on average .45 cents (USD) more EACH daily; but the government could TAX this endeavor and lower the trillion dollar debt this country is already neck deep in.
Case 4: "I don’t want some stoner in my town to crash into me on my way to work".
Rebuttal: Yes, I have heard a surprising amount of people say this, and things related to this. The answer is obvious but if you don’t see it I will literally spell it out for you, smoking and driving is most obviously a DUI, it is now (officer discretion most of the time) and it will be once legalized. For those of you thinking "psh use visine man", yes they do have a device that flashes a quick burst of light into your eye, police can measure the reaction time and tell if you are under the influence. Use of this technology is rare but could become mainstream if marijuana was legalized.
There are MANY more cases that I could write and rebut but they are far less interesting. I would just like to add on a personal note that I have seen literally hundreds of people under the influence of both Marijuana and alcohol and IMO I would say those intoxicated with alcohol are generally loud, dangerous, and/or violent. While those that smoke pot are more likely laugh themselves to sleep.
So, as if I didn’t type enough already I am curious to see what other arguments YOU can make for the justification of the incarceration of over 100,000 misdemeanor possession charges a year! Feel free to give me another case to rebut or simply comment on the above. Thanks everyone!

Case 1: Marijuana is unhealthy because you are smoking
*Not to mention breathing the air is also unhealthy due to pollution. Eating fast-food is unhealthy due to food quality. Using cellphones is unhealthy due to brain tumors. As well as many other everyday things we do, but it’s legal… so people say it’s okay.
Case2: Marijuana is a DRUG, in general communities don’t like drugs
*It’s a drug, but it’s not a narcotic. Big difference, not many people know. Marijuana is a drug, which is categorized with vicoden and other "drugs" this alone says it is not "that bad". Cocaine, Heroine, Meth, PCP, are all narcotics. The difference you ask? Drugs can be sold over the counter with a prescription due to it’s effects helping others and not being very harmful if harmful at all to your body. Narcotics are never sold over the counter and can never be prescribed.
Case 3: Legalizing Marijuana would cause social and economical disorder not only locally but nationally as well.
*Nationally? By legalizing Cannabis we can hurt other countries, such as Japan? Really? How so? By legalizing Marijuana, whether it’s country wise or state wise, would be economically smart. Go to NORML.COM and you can read that they are already in the process of legalizing Marijuana in California. This is the same site that said we were close to ending raids on Cannabis Clubs, they were right 2 days after posting the news. The President as well as Mayors and Congressman think by the legalization of Marijuana, it would help us financially as a state and possibly pull us further away from debt and depression, not fully out of depression of course, but it would help, maybe a small 3% or 10%, but any % is better then no %.
Case 4: "I don’t want some stoner in my town to crash into me on my way to work".
*The same laws would apply for those operating a vehicle. Do these people not realize alcohol is legal, but illegal to be under the influence while behind the wheel? Why wouldn’t Marijuana? It would be considered "Driving under the influence of an uncontrolled substance". Simple as that. Not to mention people are more and most likely to crash while drinking and driving then smoking and driving. In most cases, when someone was pulled over and the cop found out they were high while driving, they ended up passing the tests given and they were originally pulled over for a reason not connected to reckless driving.
…Lastly…
Why is it not legal? Well, it is getting closer, in California. What does this mean? Once California can legalize it, it will only be a matter of time before other states start to as well. Look what happened when we legalized Medical Marijuana, now others have followed in our footsteps. As of right now, they are trying and the government has already issued a statement that they will work on it. This is the furthest we have gotten in legalizing the plant. For the government to issue a statement like that, is amazing in itself. They are trying to figure a way they can tax it, since it’s so easy for the normal Joe Schmoe to grow it in the comfort of his own home. They are thinking about giving people licenses to grow and sell, but they would be taxed $50.00 to an ounce was the last I heard on it.
Taxing is the biggest reason it is not legal today. Alcohol and cigarettes can’t be grown in your backyard or closet. Therefore, people are forced to purchase these items from a store, meaning, taxes. Not to mention the fact that the government has brainwashed today’s and past society to believe Marijuana is the worst drug in the world! It’s the devils grass, it’ll kill you, etc! Now imagine if the government legalizes it. It’ll make them look like a bunch of lying, greedy, douche’s.
People who have bought into the governments word will suddenly lose faith. They will suddenly question future and past decisions and remarks made by the government. They will suddenly accuse the government of being greedy and only legalizing it for tax money! People will turn on the government… why? All because of what the government has scripted into peoples minds… they kind of f*cked themselves.
Were getting closer though, don’t worry. You can also YouTube Barrack Obama, in a senate meeting I believe in 2002, or 2005, stating he want’s to legalize Marijuana. He has the same stands on it currently and he is the one behind ending the DEA raids which is one step closer for us. We have the best chances of getting it legalized in our current state, with depression and this president. It gives the government a reason and an excuse to legalize it. If it’s not legalized by the end of Obama’s term(s) or the depression, it’s hopeless.
Illegal is a sick bird.
Marijuana is unlawful. Rebut THAT!
in your "Case 2", you used caffeine as an example of a more harmful drug that is legal. i just wanted to point out that alcohol is also a drug, and far far worse then either pot or caffeine. i think that would make a stronger argument.
and for my reason why its still illlegal (where YOU live)? because it hasn’t been legalized yet. i’d love to hear your rebuttal for that.
Because the government can not tax it because it is a natural grown substance. Very true fact.
Alcohol makes too much money for becoming illegal. I don’t think marijuana is less harmful than caffeine.
the initial push to make marijuana illegal came during the great depression when the states in the southwest, cali, arizona, new mexico, texas, were trying to get ride of mexicans and hispanics so they could put more americans to work. since mexicans and hispanics smoked weed and americans generally did not at this time, politicians decided to attack marijuana to get to the immigrants. this eventually got out of hand and propaganda started to make outragous claims, see reefer madness, to create fear and gain public support.
the fact is there is no good reason for marijuana to be illegal.
because the DEA is the only profit making agency in the US govt
Because Micheal Phelps, Obama, Clinton, Stephen King, Arnold Schwarzenagger, George W. Bush, Montel Williams, Tupac, Operah and every talented artist does, and I see no reason that I can’t be a success and smoke weed like these brilliantly successful individuals have demonstrated is clearly possible.
weed is not a drug, it’s a leaf.
