Case 1: Marijuana is unhealthy because you are smoking

Rebuttal: Yes, Marijuana is unhealthy if smoked. I know you have all heard the case 100x over but just to remind you; alcohol and tobacco are very legal substances and have been PROVEN to cause cancer by multiple institution, this research is undisputed. Also if Marijuana is used in a vaporizer, such as the volcano or vaporbrothers device, the drug is literally harmless, the only effects serious long term effects then are increased heart rate (has caused cardiac arrest in a few RARE cases), and disputable research claiming Marijuana use is linked to schizophrenia and other psychological disorders.

Case2: Marijuana is a DRUG, in general communities don’t like drugs

Rebuttal: …. shut up.. caffeine is a much more powerful and potent drug (drug/mL2). YES it would look bad, very bad, for a local or national government to legalize a substance that has already been outlawed for its ‘outrageous side effects and dangerous potential’ but at the same time is it ethically right to keep something outlawed if it is less harmless than something that IS legal.

Case 3: Legalizing Marijuana would cause social and economical disorder not only locally but nationally as well.

Rebuttal: Although this is a VERY unprovable accusation, I have come across this in my search for answers about pot, so I’ll rebut it. People think weed will cause social disorder? THIS JUST IN over 83 million kids have already admitted to using pot, note this does not include those who have used and not told (a large % because children are not about to admit to administrators that they have used drugs). Although the legalization might cause a small inflation in the % of children that try pot, those effects would hardly be long term. Look at alcohol, it is a lethal drug that has been ‘OTC’ legalized and it has not caused noticeable social destruction. As for an economic collapse?… probably not. YES it would be difficult for our economy to just "legalize" a billion dollar industry with the snap of a finger but it is VERY possible. Not only would the economy flourish with people spending on average .45 cents (USD) more EACH daily; but the government could TAX this endeavor and lower the trillion dollar debt this country is already neck deep in.

Case 4: "I don’t want some stoner in my town to crash into me on my way to work".

Rebuttal: Yes, I have heard a surprising amount of people say this, and things related to this. The answer is obvious but if you don’t see it I will literally spell it out for you, smoking and driving is most obviously a DUI, it is now (officer discretion most of the time) and it will be once legalized. For those of you thinking "psh use visine man", yes they do have a device that flashes a quick burst of light into your eye, police can measure the reaction time and tell if you are under the influence. Use of this technology is rare but could become mainstream if marijuana was legalized.

There are MANY more cases that I could write and rebut but they are far less interesting. I would just like to add on a personal note that I have seen literally hundreds of people under the influence of both Marijuana and alcohol and IMO I would say those intoxicated with alcohol are generally loud, dangerous, and/or violent. While those that smoke pot are more likely laugh themselves to sleep.

So, as if I didn’t type enough already I am curious to see what other arguments YOU can make for the justification of the incarceration of over 100,000 misdemeanor possession charges a year! Feel free to give me another case to rebut or simply comment on the above. Thanks everyone!
