I got into a bad accident and I had a bag with 2 bowls/pipes that I smoke marijuana with. There was residue but no actual marijuana. I was not arrested for DUI, but the officer told me I will be getting 2 tickets for possession while driving. I am 21, first offense, first accident, no points on license, college student. I was very cooperative with the officer at the hospital.
What will my penalty be? Should I get a lawyer? I'd like to get a Public Defender because I don't have the money for the lawyer + fees/fines that will come with everything. I think I will be getting a ticket with a first court date on it where I speak to the judge. Can I get a Public Defender there? What should I plead at the first meeting? Any info is appreciated, thanks!
Tom T is incorrect. Having weed in your car is very different from just having it on you while walking down the street. In New Jersey it’s possible to lose your license for a certain amount of time for having the weed in your car, but you won’t really know for sure until the court date. Best of luck!!
