What do think is worse to have on record (DUI or Drug Possession), curious on societies views and opinions?

Obviously neither is best, but what do you think is viewed more harshly, or if you had to have one on record what would think would be the best long term, short term, or whatever, Especially concerning job prospects and career opportunity. And to level playing field a little, a misdemeanor marijuana charge, not like meth or anything.

Drug Possession – you’re, maybe, a danger to yourself
DUI – you’re a danger to everyone else
    so…

DUI is worse because you’re putting other people in danger.

Drug Possession. It just sounds worse, as for DUI i know alot of ppl do it but only a few get caught so they may see you as unlucky

Hard to say and it depends on the position applied for. "Drug Possession" looks bad any way you look at it. Without a chance to explain yourself, it could hurt you. DUI for a job that doesn’t involve driving seems less harsh. Afterall, who hasn’t driven drunk? Just a few unfortunate souls got caught.

I believe drug possession would be worse. Many business owners and executives see nothing wrong with drinking on occasion. Very few of them do drugs.

In my opinion, a DUI is inexcusable. Drug Possession is wrong, but if you’re only harming yourself I’m not nearly as upset as I would be by someone risking the life of every other person near their vehicle. I could easily rant about people driving under the influence, so I’ll stop here instead.

As you say, neither choice is good, but were I an employer, I think I would be more apt to hire the one with the DUI with a stern warning. It`s easier to detect alcohol use on the job than someone high on drugs.Druggies are known to steal, rob and cheat to support their habit.
While one with a DUI may have been a one time thing.

I have both on my record and what I find interesting is how prospective employers and society view both. I was in possession of "happy pills" and it was a felony. When I drove drunk it was only a misdemeanor. Why? As stated by other posters my drunk driving was much more egregious and dangerous than having some "happy pills" in my possession. I have had employers tell me that they are not concerned with my DWI but due to my felony drug possession I am not hireable. When I tell people about my DWI they seem to shrug it off as not too concernining, yet my pill possession sends them into a tailspin. I really think people should be more concerned with my utter lack of concern for other people’s safety than my consumption of pills that only hurt myself. I am a recovered alcoholic/addict and I find alcohol laws to be hypocritical. Every police officer I have spoke with has told me that there would be a lot less need for officers if alcohol was taken out of the picture. Yet we still have bars and we all know not everyone is bringing a designated driver or calling a cab. I have only heard one story of a person killing people while under the influence of marijuana, as in comparison to the thousands killed by drunk drivers. I agree that both alcohol (which is a drug) and drugs are a big problem, but alcohol is by far a more dangerous substance. It’s the same old story: if you have deep enough pockets you can influence the government. If the government could figure out a way to make money off of non-pharmaceutical drugs, we would be able to purchase marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin, etc… from our nearest convenience store. God Bless America!
