Why is it considered dangerous?
Despite popular belief it does NOT kill brain cells. It only weakens the dendrites in the brain, which grow back in a few weeks anyway. This myth was created by propoganda in the 70's.
The newest studies show that there is not a correlation between marijuana smoke and lung cancer. There are even experiments showing that somone who smokes cigarettes is more likely to get cancer than someone who smokes both cigarettes AND marijuana, which means there is evidence that it fights the cancer so many believe it causes.
Unlike alcohol, it is impossible to overdose on marijuana, and there has never been a single recorded death caused by it.
Of course, no one should drive under the influence, but less than 9% of DUI's are caused by marijuana, yet alcohol remains legal.
Please don't assume I'm some druggie trying to justify smoking; I know some people take their usage too far. I just really want to know why it is so misunderstood.
Thank you.
This all started back around 1939 with Harry Anslinger. He held a successful campaign keeping Marijuana from being legal. Harry was in charge of the now DEA. The propaganda about marijuana was all his doing. You can thank that man for keeping the weed smoked behind closed doors. Google Harry Anslinger and you can probably read all about how he managed to create the myths about marijuana. Because it can be grown anywhere and they can’t figure away to make just one constant strength or to tax it to make money off it.
The movie Reefer Madness was created by him. It was originally a documentary on the hazards of Marijuana. Also, read the book by Dr. Lester Grinspoon "Marijuana Revisited". it goes through great lengths on how he changed his mind about medical marijuana and all the myths surrounding marijuana.
I completely agree with this
The pharmacuetical companies don’t want us growing our own medicine. So they pay the politicians to keep pot illegal.
This sounds like crap.
You got it.. government propaganda in short. if they cant make money on it.. why should they regulate it..
They say it is dangerous because it is a gateway drug.. but personally, I agree with your argument.
Marjuanna is the devil’s pubic hair UMKAY!
It does lead to psyzophrenia and bad spelling, or so the voices tell me.l
hooo ahhhh
amsterdam here we come
legal pot
I’ve always believed it should be taxed and sold the same as alcohol.
You drink your Bud, and I’ll smoke mine!
It’s misunderstood because studies can be made to show nearly anything. When the public is exposed to "studies" that show something is safe and an equal number of studies that show something is dangerous… confusion is born.
I have no respect for pot smokers, however. I’ve had too many friends become slavering idiots from it.
No, it isn’t a drug. You’re right.
And if I may add, if you count all the deaths from alcohol, and REAL drugs, they still do not outnumber the deaths from cigarettes alone. CIGARETTES!! Tobacco is the number 1 killing drug in America. Tobacco IS a drug but the government won’t admit it because they make too much money from taxes.
It is misunderstood because there are some people that take their usage too far.
It is also still a drug and politicians don’t want to get behind legalizing a drug. Except the Libertarians….:)
regardless if it is good or bad for your health, pot should be legalized purely because we are supposed to live in free countries, it should be the choice of the individual not the fascist propagandists in government.
many morons say that pot is a gateway drug, but what they don’t realize is that it is the illegalization of pot that forces it to be sold by drug dealers, hence giving more people access to real drugs like coke and heroin. Alcohol isn’t a gateway drug because liquor stores don’t sell heroin, pot would be the same if it could be sold legally
the only reason it remains illegal is because the government raises more revenue by illegalizing than they would by legalizing it, since you can’t tax a tree.
..
Well, studies have shown that marijuana is a gateway drug. While everything you stated above may be true.. anything that gateways into more toxic drugs is not healthy. Drugs are not good or bad, they’re just good at what they do…
But, if you still want to smoke weed, you can always consider relocating to Amsterdamn
Its not dangerous and it’s not legal for one reason TAXES. The gov. has not found a way to tax it.
let me tell you something, marijuana isn’t dangerous. the ppl that consider it being a drug just wants us to believe that. i smoke myself and yes i forget thing but thats normal. i believe that it was made up a long time ago just so that we wouldn’t smoke, but to be honest with you they are smoking it too. the government, police, etc. anybody you name it. just take a moment to think about it you’ll see that i’m tellin the truth. in some countries they have marijuana in the hospital for aids patients and cancer patients.
Hey, bro.
Happy 4/20 about 7 months early…
LEGALIZE IT!
i would like to give a puff to old poeple see if they drive faster…elementry
Marijuana lowers our inhibitions and dulls our cognitive abilities. It is no better or worse than alcohol.
It used to be called hemp but Marijuana was a name given to it to link it to the Latin menace coming here from Mexico.
Most of the marijuana smoked in the US before the 60s was homeground or found wild along the roadsides in the MidWest.
I am a former smoker and I use to believe all that crap. Pot is smoked filterless, which means that more particles enter the lungs. Which also make it a greater risk in getting cancer. You can also get a DUI on tylenol, any PAIN med or anxiety medicine.you just don’t ever hear about it. I have no idea why alcohol is still legal. It kills people every day.
only real problem i have with your argument is you said alcohol is legal.in a way it is but do remember its age of use is restriced along with laws governing amount allowed in system. in many places equaling it to a beer an hour.
Lol I haven’t smoked pot since High school like 2years ago Lol brings back funny/great memories hahaha. It seriously sounds not harmful on paper but when you see people that are addicted to it like some of my friends that I smoked with back in high School, reality hits on how something we use to do for fun can drastically change and ruin lives. I know a few people in my uni classes that has a smoke occasionally like once a week or 2 and smokes in the comfort of their own home and isn’t addicted to it, I’m guessing that’s fine but then again something small can turn into a bigger problem that’s how it always begins. As for Alcohol lol leave that alone they can’t make everything illegal and defiantly NO DRINK DRIVING!
agree with Carl, if pharmaceutical companies allow you to grow your own medicine, guess which biggest industry in united states looses
I mostly agree with your argument but I don’t think I want my dendrites weakened even temporarily. There are some people that do have bad reactions to it but they are rare. It is not as bad a alcohol or cigarettes and I would have no problem if it were legalized or better yet decriminalized. There is no question that it makes you loose motivation so it is a very bad idea to smoke it all the time, at least for most people.
I’ve smoked very good marijuana, heavily, everyday for eight years.
I haven’t had any complications but I quit for good and it’s been about 3 months now.
What people don’t understand is marijuana is dangerous. It hinders your mental development, makes you lazy, and does affect you mentally. Trust me I know. Marijuana is not good for you and if I could, I’d take those 8 years back smoke free.
For the money, brain damage, and health and legal consequences, it’s dumb to start smoking marijuana and smart to stop if you already do.
The greatest problem with marijuana being illegal is that it gives bad dealers a chance to put smokers in danger, and they won’t report what’s happening because it was an illegal transaction to begin with.
For example, weed dusted with silicone is being sold a lot, and that’s hella dangerous. Even worse was when a dealer round here started selling weed that had tiny glass balls in it, basically invisible to the naked eye, which he was using to bulk it out. Loads of college-aged kids ended up in hospital, and a whole lot of my classmates ended up coughing up blood for days on end – not nice. This would NEVER happen if it were being sold legally – people could get the good stuff without the damage. Another thing that happens a lot more than you’d think is nasty dealers preying on the inexperienced and just selling them hedge trimmings and stuff, which cases problems all on it’s own, both as a rip-off and a health hazzard.
Yes, certain parts of the marijuana bud have been shown to have anti-carcinogenic properties. If some respondants don’t believe me, look it up – this IS documented in medical journals. It is also prescribed in a lot of places for pain relief – would doctors really do this if they thought it would turn otherwise productive members of society into lazy, incapable, slobbering idiots? No, of course they wouldn’t!
Look at Amsterdam, a place where it’s legal… they have some of the lowest teenage pregnancy rates around, great education systems, thriving industries and very modern public transport, not to mention a great night-life. Ooh, evil, evil Mary-jane
they knows its not dangerous,it didnt get voted legal because they make people believe it is bad
they just know they wont make money on selling it because it is so easy to grow that people will be able to buy it withput paying taxes
Marijuana is considered dangerous by many purely because of the government’s decades long campaign of lies and misinformation regarding this beneficial plant. Countless studies have incontrovertibly demonstrated what thousands of years of historical documentation have always stated: cannabis is a beneficial plant with countless uses as a food, a fuel, a medicine, a textile, and as spiritual entheogen or inebriant.
