If they legalize marijuana, isn’t it almost certain that they will come up with a roadside test for DUI?

This is one of the biggest reasons I'm against marijuana's legalization. I've been driving high years now and it has no affect on my driving. I do acknowledge that with some people driving high is not a good idea. Do not even begin to criticize me because i've never been in an accident or even gotten a speeding ticket in the 9 years I've been driving.

Back to my question, if marijuana is legalized on federal level, subsequently the state levels, will roadside marijuana tests be inevitable?

IMO, the science of this matter has it's restrictions, with legalization comes funding, with funding comes innovations.

Your thoughts?
To be honest, I would question my motor skills more so if I was on a pain killer rather than marijuana.
No No No, if you know the law, you're not getting a ticket for driving high, to many holes if you know what you're doing.

That is the ONLY thing holding up legalization at this point.

Like alcohol prohibition, "trying" to make marijuana illegal has failed miserably and completely in the US! Legal or not, people are using it! The only people benefiting are criminals, artificially raising the prices, and making for an unsafe situation as criminals are becoming wealthier and stronger.

Alcohol causes many more deaths per year than marijuana; if marijuana is illegal, alcohol should be illegal.

Legalizing (and TAXING) marijuana, just like alcohol, would give much-needed revenue to governments who are in dire need of funds, and reduce drug-related criminal activity.

Marijuana will never be legalized in this country, therefore do not worry about it.

    Quit driving high.

These sorts of test will come about regardless of legalization. It’s a matter of public safety, not personal substance use.

  5. Chris says:

Uh, what? They can already give you a DUI for driving high, and they CAN tell. Legalizing it wouldn’t change anything.

First things first, they’d have to conduct studies of people driving under the influence of MJ and not, and see if it really is a danger. I don’t think an official study has ever been conducted. I guess it’s kinda hard to test studies involving marijuana :) But if the data shows it’s not a risk, why make a sobriety test for it?

They pretty much do now. The percentages of THC in your body vary based on the time in between when you last smoked and when the urinalysis test is given.

They’ll ask you how often you smoke before the test (which is in your best interests to be truthful), then using your body size/weight, they’ll get a percentage of just how DUI you were.

Good question. I would say that, much like drinking, If you exhibit control of your vehicle you would not be pulled over.
