I would vote YES and campaign as heavily as I could. Here's my reasoning. There are drugs out there whose side effects can include psychotic behavior or other dangerous behavior as far as the public is concerned. Marijuana is NOT such a drug. It may, like alcohol, cause some APPROXIMATE danger, if say, someone very high took the wheel, but this is not a proximate cause. An informed adult should have the right NOT to be considered criminal if she or he uses this drug responsibly. There is also NO onus to prove that the drug is harmless. I do not claim that it is, but it is certainly not as damaging to society as alcohol. I am aware that some fools out there are convicted of DUIs in the double digits. Why are we so freaking lenient THERE!!??!! Why are there NO mandatory minimums for the SECOND DUI? The criminalization of many drugs was born out of historical prejudice, and the continued criminal status of marijuana is maintained to some degree for the same reason. Seriously folks, when are we gonna grow up here?
I would even suggest a compromise for the meanwhile. Let's say if you insist on maintaining possession/use as a criminal offense, what say you to making it a class c misdemeanor you would get ticketed for, but never arrested for?
I Love you, two things. First, NOBODY has EVER died of a marijuana overdose. EVER. Second, you would also then have to support criminalizing any addictive substance or behavior.
I must also point out, obviously, that there would be an age restriction. I DO NOT support letting kids use it legally.
