What are the conseqences of driving without registration and insurance in California?

I got a dui without registration and insurance? The cops didn't mention it although they could have found out later or just never mentioned it. If they didn't know, could they find out later in court? The only reason I think they didn't charge me with it, is because they let me get it from inpound when they could have put a hold on it. It just seems like it would have got mentioned during the arrest. I don't think they would let me cut a corner knowing it wasn't registered to me but being cool an letting me get it two days later from the inpound yard.

    Dear Friend,

You’re already in California. How much worse can it get?

They would usually impound your vehicle if it is not registered at all, and it is illegal to drive without insurance. Not sure of the exact consequences but I think anywhere from suspending your licence to taking your vehicle and of course a hefty fine.

They are not required to mention that you are a moron for driving without registration and insurance….HEY were you driving suspended also?

they were being nice to you. if you didnt get sited. then it wont come up. but it could have been the difference between DUI and AGGRAVATED DUI. whew! this means you cooperated and they didnt bother. if you were a dick they would have got you for everything

YOU ARE IN FOR PROBLEMS. JAIL TIME AT THE MOST.

To be honest, I’m not sure I understand why you’re asking this question. But…

If you want to know what the fine/punishment is for the crimes of 4000(a) and 16028(a) of the Vehicle Code is, check with your local court. The fines may vary slightly between counties.

You will not go to jail for either crime (possibly under some VERY exceptional circumstances, but not in 99.9% of the cases).

Unless your registration is more than six months expired, the cops cannot seize your vehicle. Also can’t seize it for not having insurance (I wish).

Have you been to court for the DUI yet? You might find that the registration comes up as the probable cause used to stop you. I frequently use expired registration as a reason to stop someone, and if they are DUI, I don’t bother adding something as minor as expired registration to the charges…people will have enough to worry about with the DUI.

Still don’t know why you’re asking about it; aren’t you worried enough about the DUI?
