Yes it is now 10 years. If you got a DUI and haven’t been convicted yet you may be able to save yourself a ton of money by getting your insurance over at http://jmacins.com/
Now I don’t work there this is not a spammy answer. But I work at a law office and we met the president of this company at a DUI conference and have been sending our clients over to him ever since. You can call them and get info and if they can help you they’ll tell you if they can’t they’ll tell you that to. The catch is they have to do it before you are convicted so they can write you the same policy with them that you have now with your insurance company. If you have already been convicted though then they can’t do much.
call your local dmv and ask them. i have never heard of more than 7 years, but CA could be different. easy as a phone call to find out
Seven years. Cheers!
CA has modified things. 10 years. Sorry. 10 years for DUI and serious points, down to 3 years for minor things.
California has a DUI / DWI "washout" period of 10 years, calculated from arrest date to arrest date. This means that anyone arrested for drunk or drug driving within 10 years of the last arrest date will be charged with a second offense, with increased penalties and punishment. The punishment in court for a second or third drunk driving conviction is much harsher than for a first offense – a multiple-offense drunk driving conviction carries mandatory jail time, an 18-month alcohol education program, a required ignition interlock device (such as Smart Start), and more.
Yes – the law changed from 7 years to 10 years.
You should also be aware that it is possible to get your DUI expunged (meaning it won’t show up in the public record and your insurance company won’t know about it.) Expungement is possible after completion of probation (usually 3 years for a DUI.) The site http://www.duimc.com has some more details and samples of the legal expungement papers that need to be filed with the court.
