I live in Michigan and I have been advised by Hartford that my car insurance will be canceled in Feb. due to the fact that another person in this household has a DUI. They feel that this person could drive my car with or without my permission. They advised one of us needs to move in order to have the policy reinstated. Is this justified? What can I do?
If someone drives your car without your permission there’s no way you or your insurance can be held responsible, that’s in a court of law.
He simply gets done for car theft.

you should call the insurance company and see how your car is listed. if it’s not single driver, it should be. if you have on there other people can drive and be insured, take it off.
They are justified. You might be able to get an insurance company to exclude your room mate from the policy and if that happens your room mate must never drive your vehicle.

That is really sad to hear. I call that discrimination. I would not leave it there, try to contact a lawyer and see what he has to say. There must be some kind of law that can protect you against these companies.
