Your insurance will only pay for authorized drivers of that vehicle, and sometimes insurance companies can deny claims for violation of the terms of a policy, i.e., drinking and driving.

if hes not covered then no they wont pay! and it will come out of your pocket.

Not unless he was on the insurance…

  4. hello says:

depends on your policy, most likely you are the responsible party and he should be responsible for the deductible or any other charges.

    Get rid of that clod.

I don’t think you were too responsible in letting him use the car. Maybe the insurance company should sue you instead of covering you.

If you have un-insured motorist policy it should. However read the small print in your contract..

  7. Detective Leane says:

No, 1. Because he was drinking and driving, they NEVER pay the insurance for that and:
    2. He wasn’t registered to drive the car so:
    3. Either he pays for the damage to the car or:
    4. If he refuses tell him to cu*nt off and:
    5. You’ve really fu*cked up mate.

It’s up to your insurance whether or not they will pay. Most of the time, though, they won’t. If they do pay, they will likely cancel your policy and you’ll have a really hard time getting further insurance.

Never, ever let anyone not on your insurance drive your car. Remember, you are liable for anything they do.

It depends on the insurance company, but I do think that they will pay depending on your type of coverage.
There are some companies that will pay regardless of who was driving the car others are just for the insured. Check with your company and see what you signed.
Either way, look to see your rates going up
Hold your boyfriend accountable. Whatever happens, it sounds as if you are going to need a new car. chances are your insurance will pay off the car but you probably wont get much if anything back if you were sitll making payments on the car….

Don’t break up with him (and yes I think you should) until after this is settled

It all depends on exactly what your policy says. You’d better call your agent and find out.
(You may have to just beat it out of your sorry boyfriend’s hide…)
    Good luck!

depends on your policy. i’m in texas. here when you let someone borrow your vehicle, they borrow your insurance so yes your car would be covered less your deductible if you have collision coverage. the transformer would be paid under your liability coverage. and, yes, we pay regardless of dui but your policy may suffer after this claim. call your insurance carrier to be sure

  12. Bill C says:

    Lots of "ifs"
    Is he on your insurance
    What state are you in
    You age
    his age
I think you need to call your insurance agent. My guess is NO!

Depends on the wording of your policy. Most major companies will pay the claim without question unless your boyfriend is named as an excluded driver. You will likely be non-renewed though. I hope you have a sh*t-pile of liability coverage. That transformer could cost over $100,000. If you are insured with one of those low-class, standard insurers then it may be possible that boyfriend is indeed excluded and you will have to pay everything. Time to pull out the policy and start reading.
