Is there any way to avoid outrages insurance costs after a DUI?
I recently got awarded a DUI... and I feel like I've been going downhill ever since. But what I am here for is to ask this question... What can I do to avoid paying double to triple (0-0/month) on insurance costs? Can I move to a different state to avoid such robbery? I never realized just how...

I never realized just how dependant I was to my car in order to even function as an adult in society... I really need an answer that will help... thanks...
Everybody, I know you all look down upon me instantly because I have a DUI. I know my mistake. I have already learned from it. I'm never touching alchohol and driving again. I have to hear this every time I even mention it.
I was actually coming to pick up a friend who was too drunk to drive when I got cited. Be it a good deed or not, I'm still getting punished for it and I feel terrible. Every single day I am getting more and more depressed. Please, I came here for your help, not your hate.
Yeah, it’s an expensive lesson, that’s for sure. Sorry to say, but, there’s no way around paying the higher rates. You can shop around, because different companies have different rates. If you are required to carry SR22, in addition to your regular insurance, you’ll want to shop for this also. You will have to pay the higher rates for three years, possibly less, but if you get any other tickets, you will see your rates spin out of control. Insurance companies can go back three years, unless alcohol is involved, then they get ten years. Employers also get three, but can get up to five, depending on your job. Males under the age of 25, pay the highest rates. Carry liability only, if possible, that will save you some. Good luck.
Thats the price you pay for being irresposible. Sell your car cause your gonna pay for a while.
Honestly you can avoid the rising insurance costs. Unfortunately, you will always have to pay more money, no matter what state you live in. If someone will insure you, you are lucky.
If you are actually willing to move to another state, just to avoid the robbery, lol, move to NYC, they have public transportation all over the place. And you don’t have to be dependent on the car.
You can try 1-800-Safe-Auto.
They may not be available in your state though.
That’s the idea, you broke the law, you’re being punished for it. If they were to let you get away with it, you’d just keep doing it till you killed someone. Suck it up, pay your dues, and take a cab next time you go drinking it’s all part of "functioning as an adult".
You deserve the high cost for driving drunk, you should be happy you got caught before you killed someone….
TAKE THE BUS MAN!!!
Move where ever you’d like to move, but it will follow you. Since you made a decision to drive drunk, you will have very high rates for the next several years, at least 3, perhaps as high as 6, until it drops off, assuming you don’t get any more in the mean time.
They are NOT "awarded" by the way, you worked for it and earned it.
You’re lucky they’ll even insure you at all. Even if you move to another state, your DUI conviction will follow you. The best thing to do is go to minimum coverage. That may save you some dough.
Yes, park your car and take the bus. DUI says to the company " Big Claim Possible, Take Underwriting Action!" Moving to another state does not clear the record. It will show up as part of your driver record. Sorry, but drinking and driving is so utterly reprehensible. You would not be worried about your insurance premium if you have killed or severely injured somebody, and that happens every year. One of my clients, a young mother, was killed, stopped at a red light, when a drunk didn’t apply the brakes and slammed his pickup into the rear of her car at well over 60 mph.
NOPE YOUR FUCKED
You can raise your comp & collision deductibles & lower your liability coverage (but I don’t recommend this). Also, if you have a lawyer he may be able to get the charge dropped to a wet & reckless. Take a defensive driving course (aka traffic school).
Moving to a different state won’t help.
