If I was let off for a DUI in an accident, does my insurance still find out I was drinking?

I was at fault in an accident and was breathalyzed above the legal level. The police let me off and didn't give me a dui, just a red light ticket. Will my insurance find out that I was drinking even though I wasn't given the dui? ...

No, there is no way for them to know that. They go by what you get the ticket for and what the court decision is- which would not have anything to do with a dui since you were not ticketed for one.

Since the police didn’t charge you with anything the details of your traffic stop are confidential. Your insurance company isn’t allowed to know.

Idiot cop! If it isn’t mentioned then no the insurance company will only know about the accident. Drinking and driving is not smart EVER! IT KILLS PEOPLE!!!! Next time call a friend, a relative, a cab – or walk home…

My mum works for an insurance company they will not find out untill your policy is up for renewel, then they will look into your records.

If you weren’t ticketed that time, no they won’t. Unless of course your agent is on Yahoo answers, and happens to see your question…

Let off from a DUI? I do so hope you have thought about what happened and will NEVER drive drunk again. I have had friends and relatives killed by people like you who think it’s OK to drink and drive. I also have no sympathy for those who do and get caught. They need to pay for the consequences of their actions.

Your blood alcohol limit exceed the legal limit, and you were not arrested?! Wow! If there was no citation and/or mention of your DUI, the insurance company will not find out.
