I got into a car accident last night when I was driving my friend back home. I was driving too carelessly and ran over the red light and got hit by another male driver. Fortunately nobody was hurt in the accident, the cops came, and ran some test on us and found out that the other driver was DUI and he was taken away.
This is my first car accident, and my first traffic law violation. I was given a ticket of 104$ for traffic light violation, and given the right to appear on the court 1 month from now.
I would like to know what will probably happens to me, what I should do, am I available for Probation before Judgement ? etc.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
If you have not already notified your insurance company, do it now. You’ll simply have to pay the $104.00 fine for running a red light. You may not even have to go to court but just have to"post a bond", when your case comes before the judge, they will take the bond you have posted. Fine is paid, Case closed
Never admit fault at the scene
you pay the fine you get points on your record your insurance might go up thats about it judge might give you a talking to and tell you not to come back in fronty of him no big deal other than going thru a red lith which was just dumb
Wow, what a comedy of errors. One driver running the red light and the other driver intoxicated. Obviously, you both were sited with summonses to appear in court. It sounds like a toss up for trying to determine who’s at fault – it sounds a little like both drivers, although running the red light is the actual cause of the accident.
Contact your insurance company – this one could go either way.
Accidents happen and what matters is that you both are okay.
All you have to do is pay the ticket. Your insurance rates will go up because you ran a red light and caused an accident for which they have to pay for.
If you want to say you didn’t run the red light & fight it, you can take it to court ( I don’t recommend it, because the judge will not believe you, they will believe the cop. Just pay the stupid ticket)
Call your insurance company to report the accident.
