That depends, are you in th US? If so, read on:
Do you live with your dad? If so, are you listed as a driver on his policy? If you live with him and are listed on the policy, then yes, you are covered. If you are not on his policy, then the insurance company may deny the claim, not only that, they can cancel his policy for not disclosing that you have your license and live with him.
If you don’t live with him, then no worries, you’re covered.
If the other party is at fault, then his insurance should be paying.
As long as you have full cover, and you’re a named driver on the policy then you will be ok.
