Speaking for California insurance companies, you may have to pay a small fee for them to immediately issue you an SR-22 certificate for your drivers license, however your current premium should not change until the expiration/renewal of your policy. Typically, and if this is your only violation against you, you could expect your rate to go up by approx 40%. Also, depending on rating factors, your insurance company may elect to non-renew your policy as you now may not qualify for that particular program. But not to worry, there are many quality insurance companies available that cater to individuals who have activity on their driving records and have rates that are very competitive.

    wats a D.U.I ?

What insurance? You better hope they dont cancel you altogether. If they dont cancel you, I wouldnt expect anything less than double or triple the rates.

    Grade 1 misdemeanor I believe.

Probably expect your insurance to at least double. But – if you are getting your licence back and haven’t had insurance for a while, the quotes could be hideous.

you might have your insurance dropped all together and the only isurance avaliable will be the high risk insurance plan provided by the secretary of state [outrageously costly =( ]

You don’t say how old you are, what the rest of your driving record is, or what state you are in. You do not tell us what insurance company you have, how long you have had your policy, or how long you have had your driver licence.

Any guesses from $500 a year to $5,000 a year could be made, but, with no information, that is all they are, guesses.
Dumb information is used to make dumb guesses.

What I can tell you is this. In my jurisdiction, if you had an insurance discount, which could be 25%, it is gone at renewal, or whenever they allow you to get your licence back, and takes several years of no violations of any kind to get back. (6, to get back to 25%). Your licence will be surcharged close to $1,000, which is the insurance component you pay on your driver licence. This prevents you from just transferring your vehicle to your spouse to try to get around the surcharge.
