    5 years is a while ago, usually they look at the past 3 years. Could be different, but as long as it’s not a recurrent problem your rates shouldn’t be much higher than someone without…but the rates will probably be higher fyi.

    most insurance carriers only look back 3 years. they even ask this question when applying for new insurance.

    3 years for violations other than OVI (DUI). OVI is 6 pooints, as far as insurance is concerned.

    The insurance company can SEE back as far as the state DMV keeps records – 10 years, or even more. As far as how long they can hold it against you, that varies by state, but is usually 3 – 7 years, depending on the state.
