Getting convicted of a DUI in 10 days. Best company to get cheap insurance?

In 10 days I'll probably get convicted of a DUI when I show up to court.

My insurance policy just expired. I'm thinking of going with a different company. Any idea what company won't raise my rates too much when I get the DUI? How long will it take my insurance company to raise my rates? Do I have to contact them? What's the best way to go about this?

When they raise my rates do I have the option to cancel or am I stuck in the contract?

Thanks.
I already paid my debt to society and to God.. No one was injured. I lost my job, was homeless for 6 months, almost died several times, and had my life pretty much crushed.

    Does your state require SR-22?
Many do if you are convicted of dui.

SR-22 is a form that the insurance company sends into the state certifying that you have insurance. You can face an indefinite license suspension if you let the insurance lapse. So it’s very important to stay on top of it.

In my state, if convicted of DUI you have to pay for SR-22 for 3 years. After that, with no more violations, it drops off.

If so, its going to be very expensive. There is no cheap insurance. All you can do is try to find one that’s not as expensive as the others.

    Safe Auto
    Progressive
    The General

    all offer SR-22.

You might want to go sit down with an Independent Insurance agent. These are agents that can write for several different companies. This agent will be able to get you quotes from more than one company.

Your best bet is to start contacting companies and getting quotes. Be upfront about the DUI and the need for SR-22.

You should expect to pay at least 3x the amount you are paying now for insurance.

    Good Luck to you.

It likely won’t matter much where you get insurance, it will probably be "high risk" insurance. If there is a good attorney in your area that is noted for handling DUI cases, you should contact them about your case ASAP. It may cost you a few thousand dollars to get the DUI dismissed, but that’s still cheaper than high risk insurance for a few years.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE AND YOU WILL NEVER GET YOURSELF IN THIS MESS. NEXT TIME YOU MAY END UP KILLING SOMEONE AND THE COST WILL BE A LOT MORE THAN JUST HIGH MONTHLY PAYMENTS ON INSURANCE.

If you have great credit, Progressive’s rates for someone over 25 with ONE DUI are pretty great. I haven’t seen anyone beat them – and the rates might actually be slightly lower than you were paying BEFORE the DUI.

As you currently have NO insurance, whereever you have your new insurance, will pick up the DUI right away. Rates go into effect at the time the policy begins. If you’re honest about the DUI when you get your quotes, then you’ll get an accurate quote up front.
