Getting car insurance with DUI?

When an insurance company wants to know if you've had any DUI's in the last 10 years, can they really find that out or are they just hoping you're stupid enough to tell them? Because I live in Pennsylvania and am pretty sure it comes off your driving record after 3 years, but if you have a second offense after 10 years, it is treated as a first offense. Is this correct?
And the DUI was in New Jersey and was a first offense, so I wasn't penalized for it in Pennsylvania, I just couldn't drive in Jersey for 7 months. So I believe it is on my Jersey record but not my PA record. Can the Insurance company find out?
And when I say its not on my PA record, I mean that they know about and if it happened again, they would act accordingly, but Its not considered a DUI because I didn't get a jury trial in Jersey as is my right in Pennsylvania.

In most states, not all, your driving record goes back to the day you first got your license and nothing ever comes off it. What does happen is some insurance companies don’t use the older information to calculate your rates or decide if they want to insure you.

In your case, since you weren’t convicted under Pennsylvania law, I don’t know what your driving record would show. It might show that you were arrested but not convicted or possibly not even show you were arrested. It’s very easy to visit your states DMV website and order a copy of your driving history. You can see everything the insurance company will see.

The links contain two articles about 20+ year old DWI convictions of President Bush and Todd Palin, just as an example that nothing comes off of your record.

You need to ask this of your D.M.V.

So, what you want to know is if you can lie to the company and get away with it. If you have had it, disclose it.
