It would be in your best interest. But if you don’t, they will eventually find out about it when the run your driving record.
Of course you do. You had an accident and caused harm. Why would you ever think you shouldn’t report this to your insurance company? That’s why you have insurance.
You are obligated to notify them immediately of all accidents involving your vehicle insured with them, and all charges in connection with any accident.
If for some reason you are not convicted, or end up convicted of a lesser charge, you can always notify your insurance company of that when it happens and provide them with proof from the court.
You are supposed to report it right away–otherwise you run the risk of them suing YOU…something about your story sounds fishy…if the cops suspected you of DUI, they would have either done a breath or blood test…they would NOT have cited your with a DUI unless you had the alcohol in your system at a level that was considered DUI.
I think you need to take responsibility for your actions–thank goodness your kids were not injured! If I were the judge, man, you would be in a world of hurting–I would throw the book at you and add charges of child endangerment to the DUI!
Your insurance card tells you to notify them in case of an accident. If you do not, they may fight you on paying for the post you hit and any injuries occuring. They are gong to find out anyways.
