Dad got a DUI, how much will my insurance go up?

I'm a 17 year old high schooler (turning 18 in Oct.) with an original quote for around 0 p/month on car insurance. I was astonished when I found out, but not even two months later my dad gets a DUI. How much will this make my insurance go up? Since i'm only a permit holder (getting my intermediate this summer), it depends on their policy. Its completely unfair I have to pay for his mistakes, even when I warned him. :c

You can compare how the insurance quotes would change, for example here – autoinsurance.bebto.com

well is it his first or what i am going to guess about 30 to 40 a month because you both are high risk right now if i were you i would try to get a separate policy fromm him .or get plpd with uninsured motorist until later when you get your license then get your own policy

I don’t see how it affects you at all.

If there’s only one car on the policy, the rate for it will go up, but since it was dad’s DUI, you shouldn’t have to pay the extra cost. If you’re on your own vehicle, yours shouldn’t go up at all.

The answer could vary by person. It is alway a good idea to hear the suggestion from different sides and try to choose the best one. Here http://www.insuranceidea.info/free-insurance.htm is a good one i recommend.

OK, if you and your father is under the same policy (regardless of who is the policyholder) the rates will definitely go up.

If you and your father has a separate policy, your rates should not be affected by his DUI.

DUI could affect the rates for the policyholder if the driver listed under the policy receive this. The driving record all licensed driver in a certain policy or in a household can affect the insurance premiums as well as the insurer’s decision to insure the car.

    hope this helps!

(why do i get the feeling that you, a high school student, are paying for your family’s policy? if you are, thats so cool) :)

It depends, it will pay to shop around for quotes and compare different rates from several carriers. Esurance are a good company for providing high risk insurance at good rates. http://www.dui-usa.drinkdriving.org/dui_sr22_dwi_auto_car_insurance.php
