    Well…..

Honestly cost me $15,000 all together. Took three years of my life away. I’ve never been in trouble with the law before and I’m over the age of 40.

I pulled over and went to sleep because I knew I was impared. They woke me up and "WHAM!!!"

You would have thought I killed someone or raped somebody.

    Fine $500
    Laywer $1200
    Probation $2500
    Auto Insurance through the roof
extra $3000 just to keep my drivers license.

Now, I go to work, come home. Don’t have a life and don’t talk to anyone.

If I drink, it’s in my house.

I say again, not even a speeding ticket.

Not at all. Considering drunk drivers kill FOUR innocent people for every one person killed by a gun, I think they’re too light.

Yes, I believe it is. I got a DUI at age 19. I had started drinking when I went off to college because I was raped two weeks before classes started. I know it’s no excuse, but I was just really depressed because of all the rumors…The guy said it was consensual and bragged about it.

I had to attend AA meetings three times a week for a year where I was told that the rape was my fault and that I had a spiritual disease, and needed to surrender my life to God and admit I am powerless.

I had to pay $3500 in fines and my lawyer was $1500. I had to go to an outpatient rehab program where the counselors made fun of me and called me a bitch.

I have been sober for two years now. I’m 21. The whole experience made me really depressed.

In my rehab group, I was bunched in with violent offenders…the guy that sat next to me was parolled for attempted murder…the other guy for rape.

No. It is supposed to be bad enough to persuade people not to do it. Still, the current sentences do not work and people continue to commit that crime, although with less frequency than once was. I think the sentences for a first offense ought to about 30 days in jail. Perhaps that would be enough to persuade people not to commit that crime.
