Probably court costs and fines. A dui while driving a water craft or recreational vehicle does not effect your regular drivers license. The average dui penalty for lake erie (New York) region is 250 dollars and for first time offenders it is not uncommon to have the case dismissed. Laws are becoming more tough on people who drink and drive recreational vehicles (i.e. seadoo, snowmobile, 4-wheelers) and there is litigation to get some type of penalty to associate with a persons actual drivers license but it gets voted down time and time again. This is mainly becuase if we ding people for riding recreational vehicles where do we stop??? how about bi-cycles, skate boards, scooters…. one of the requirements for a dui / dwi is to be operating a vehicle on a public highway or a public place (walmart parking lot for example or a parking lot which can occupy more than 6 vehicles). So until this happens people who get caught dui on their recreational vehicles will get a slap on the wrist.
Law in that state says 10 days in jail, $1,800 fine, suspended license for 90 days and up to 5 years probation.
