The answer is right there on the link:
1st Offense:
Administrative License Suspension (ALS) for a prohibited BAC;
ALS for test refusal = one year license suspension;
Jail – Minimum of three consecutive days or 3-day driver intervention program;
Fine – Minimum $200 and not more than $1,000;
Court License Suspension – 6 months to 3 years.
Yes you should stay out of it. A DUI charge usually has a smoking gun and you don’t want to risk getting yourself into trouble.
I believe DUI’s should be considered attempted murder, due to the fact that are attempting to murder every other driver on the road because your drunk and driving, therefore it should be LIFE…Stay out of it. I am sure your friend is an adult, now let him/her take care of themselves. We all have to take responsibility for our actions at some point in our lives, why not start early.
Damn I’m from California, and the penaly over here is extremely high.
I hired a lawyer and spent no days in jail, coroner office visit (see dead bodies). $1,400 court fee, 6 month AA alcohol counceling meetings ($1,400), and 1 year suspension on my license. 15 days of community service, apparently I think you will get it much easier than that.
If i didn’t get a lawyer, I would of spent the maximum time in jail which is 6 months of jail time.
My BAC was .21
No don’t get involved, unless you get paid.
A friend of mine got in trouble for the same issue. A DUI in Ohio, if you blow in the breathalizer, will cost you about $1500 in fines and 3 days in a DUI prevention. You may lose your license for 30 days at the most and get a pretty yellow and red DUI license plate. Plus you have your lawyer fees in there as well.
IF you refuse to blow the breathalizer, you lose your license for 6 months and only have driving privilages to the grocery and to work. You get a $1500 fine, plus 3 days in a DUI camp.
After you do this, you have to pay a $500 to $1,000 license reinstatment fee from the Ohio BMV. So its not cheap.
If your friend was drunk and they have a video of the field sobriety test and the breathalizer, there is nothing you can do or say to get them off of this.
Maximum: 6 months incarceration,
$1,000 fine,
3 years license suspension,
court costs,
impound fees or forfeiture of vehicle,
increase in insurance,
possible employment problems,
possible mandatory professional counseling.
Been there, done it.
Had a DWI, a DUI, and most recently an OVI.
It is not worth it!!
