I got a 1st offense DUI.Will future employers find out from a background check?

It was my 1st time and I won't get convicted. I am worried that it will affect future job employment as I am in school for children psychology. I just had 2 drinks that night was over the legal limit when I got pulled over. And I feel devastated and awful now. Please help!!! ...

If you "won’t get convicted" then it shouldn’t be on your record and it won’t matter if they do a background check because it will not show up. However, if you were over the legal limit and ADMIT to it, I’m not sure how you’re getting out of the ‘conviction’?

Assuming there might be an actual conviction, some states allow the conviction to be expunged from your record once you complete all the court requirements and refrain from other problems for awhile. So once the conviction is expunged from your record, it’s like it didn’t happen and you won’t have to admit to it on a job application (in most cases) and it won’t show up on a background check. HOWEVER, it DOES stay on your driving record no matter what, so any job that requires a check of your driving history will be able to see that you had a DUI conviction. Pennsylvania does the expungment deals with their first time DUI offenders, and I believe there are a few other states as well.

As far as a job goes, a first offense isn’t going to ruin your chances of finding employment, but if it is on your record as a conviction, it’s certainly doesn’t help. If you don’t get another DUI or alcohol related offense, I’m sure you will be able to find a job. You’ll be alright, just don’t get another :)
