DUI offense?

For a first time DUI offense (21 years old) with one prior misdemeanor, is it necessary to hire a lawyer? I hear yes from some people and no from others, so am unsure as to what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. This is in the state of California by the way ...

The DUI itself is going to cost you a lot. The penalties for a first offense are pretty standard. I'd save my money and just deal with the courts on your own. If you are in a position of affording it though hire a really good lawyer that specializes in DUI offenses. The really good ones can get anyone out of anything. They will dispute the accuracy of the breathalizer by questioning the last time it was calibrated. The ground on which you took the impaired skills test (walking the line) did it have any pebbles or loose rocks on the ground. Did you burp at all before giving the breathalizer they are suppose to wait 15 minutes before giving the test. A really good lawyer will get you off so really it all depends on your economic situation

You will need a lawyer for any DUI, prior record or not.

DUI is a crime and a jailable offense – get a lawyer

A lawyer is always a good thing to have. It will increase your chances of receiving a less severe punishment and he might be able to help you keep your license.

Besides, they might have an ability to cut a plea deal for you. People without lawyers rarely have an opportunity to do that for themselves.

The penalty for DUI in California is pretty straightforward. If you intend to plead guilty, I don't know that I would bother with paying for an attorney.

That said, you should almost certainly consult with an attorney just to make sure all the rules were followed. You may or may not be able to "get off" on some technical issue but it can't hurt to at least have a consultation with an attorney.

You have no reason to trust me (and many would argue you should not), but I have no interest in your DUI case and would be happy to review the facts with you in email if you're interested. I've made a few of those arrests myself.

the way i look at it ….either you were guilty or not….lawyer or not you are gonna pay big…..each state is different but all of them have hefty fines…..good luck…and most of all learn from your mistakes and if you decide to drink again make sure you have a real plan NOT to be drinking and driving…be thankful you or no one else was hurt….
