What happens to you when you get your 3rd dui?

My brother in law is not too bright and he has 3 DUI's and he went to court and they wanted to take him to jail for 10 months... So he posted bail... No what? He just gets away with it? He doesn't have to go to jail?
and if he hires the BEST attorney that money can buy will he do and time in jail...
we live in California.

He only posted bail, so he hasn’t been to trial yet. The judge could still sentence him to the maximum sentence that his state allows for his offense. And his driver’s license could still be suspended and his auto insurance rates could soar. For a long time.

he posted bail to stay out of the slammer (he must have pleaded not guilty) he still has to got to court. with three DUI’s he will spend time most likely.

That all depends on whether your brother-in-law hires a good defense attorney…if he gets a good one, he probably will serve minimal time, if any…if he doesn’t get a good lawyer, he could be looking at doing time in the joint.

Most likely (3) it’s a felony D U I.. He’s going to have a years worth of hearings and if lucky get by with losing his license from 1-3 years. And 10-30 days in Jail. Hire a lawyer that adds another $3000. in fees.

3 D U I’s In AZ will get you 3-7 years in Prison

In North Carolina he would lose his license for life and never be allowed to drive (legally) again. Because most states have reciprocity agreements, he can’t move to another state and get a license there.
