My bf was now formally convicted of DUI. He is Canadian I am American. I want to know if he can still cross into the states even though he now has been convicted. I have heard that people can and cant cross. I was reading about the laws and a DUI in the states is not considered a crime of moral turpitude, and can not bar entry into the US. Can some one clear this up for me? I just want him to come down for the 4th of July.
He is sorry for what he has done. He is not allowed to drive for a year. But I can come up and get him and take him down if he is allowed across. I know most people will judge him and say he is a loser blah blah blah, but I will stand by his side. No one is perfect. I don't hate him for his mistakes, though it makes me disappointed. I am a survivor of a drunk driver who was never caught as far as I know. I don't hold grudges and hope that justice is some day served.
Your question contains your answer, i.e., "DUI in the states is not considered a crime of moral turpitude, and can not bar entry into the US." If that is his only conviction, and it was simple DUI, he is not inadmissible because of the DUI.
He will need a valid passport. Proof of employment always helps and sufficient funds to support himself for the duration of his stay and to accomplish the purpose of his trip will be needed.
