In America we are concerned with protecting ourselves from Crimes and acts that can lead up to them. For instance we have laws that register every sex offender in America to keep our kids safe. However, if you look at National Statitics over 16,694 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes - an average of one almost every half-hour. Many of these being children. So I think that if we are going to protect our children from one class of people, then we should also look at Drunk Drivers who tend to kill a lot more.

Yes, there absolutely should be. There should also be one for drug convictions. After all, most of the heinous crimes committed lately against children were by people abusing drugs. Some were registered sex offenders and some were not. Joseph P. Smith, a cocaine abuser, was sentenced to death yesterday in Florida for murdering Carlie Brucia. He said he had used heroine and cocaine prior to abducting, sexually assaulting and killing her. He was not a registered sex offender. All of his past (24) convictions were for drugs.

The sad thing is that drunk drivers and drug abusers have a MUCH higher recidivism rate than sex offenders! So why are we wasting our tax dollars on the wrong people???

Please read the U.S. Dept of Justice report that was issued in 2003. It gives you these rates. It blew my mind away. If we want to issue cruel and unusual punishment it MUST be to all criminals, not just one class.

Thank You for this great question.

P.S. To the young man who states he is 17 and just got a DUI. You were lucky. It could very well have been consensual sex with your girlfriend while you were drinking and then she cried rape or her parents found out and pressed charges on you. You just really don’t know how lucky you are. Many 17 year olds are on the sex offender registries. Check FL, OK, KA, WI, IN, IL and DE to name a few. See how many young people are listed on there for statutory rape among other things that really mean consensual sex. Check ID’s of girls BEFORE you get near them. Also check the moral outrage link I have provided so you will know how to protect yourself. There is a link on the home page to the AOC (age of consent) for each state.

    Sounds good to me.

    Have fun compiling it, though.

if there is one what about speeders and people who run red lights they are just as dangerous

Absolutely!! I am sure that M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) would back you 1000%. I would make that your first contact. They may even be able to lead you in the right direction of who/what/where needs to be done. My children are my #1 priority and I can not even fathom the thought of losing one of them, especially to a drunk driver. I hope that someday….this list of drunk drivers will be a reality.

i have a DUI. it happen when i was a 17 (still am). i would not have drove drunk if i was sober(understand). i guess you could call it temporary insanity. i have lost my license and have had stiff fines.(it was 5am in a rural area and i had been up all night drinking, there was no traffic at all)

i will never drive drunk again.

i would hate for my future self to be denied privilages for something that i have already paid for alot.

Yes, but pretty soon there is going to be a national list for not taking out the garbage or being over-weight etc. etc.

What good would it do? The purpose of having a list for sexual offenders is so people can be pre-informed that a sex offender lives in their area and therefore can take precautions such as keeping their children away from the sex offender. A similar list for DUI offenders would not prevent you from being harmed by a drunk driver in the same way.

If there is to be registrations, then all types of offences should be registered. To single out just one class of felon, such as sex offenders, is unjustified. As there are many who have had multiple DUI’s, it is only by luck they haven’t killed or maimed a child, a family, or friends in the vehicle with them.

To not create a registry for DUI or all classes of felons, defeats the purpose of knowing who is a danger or not. I would rather know where the habitual drunk lives than any other felon to include RSO’s. Drunks will continue to drink and drive with or without a license. As with drug dealers, they are the most dangerous of all.

It appears to me that the only ones against this are drunk drivers. They do not want their rights and privacy removed as it has been done to others.
As for what good it would do, I offer a scenario.
Your 10 year old is staying over a friennd’s house. When it is time to come home on Saturday night, he/she calls and says the friend’s mom offered to drive them home.
You know the name. You check the DUI registry and see 3 convictions. Aren’t you gald you checked. Aren’t you going to pick up your 10 year old yourself? Far fetched? I think not!

"Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I’ve ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response was there anything that could even be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

How about you just give EVERY person convicted of ANY crime a nice big green inverted triangle to mark a criminal? Won’t that notify us all of who’s dangerous? (Research it & tell me who did this before you suggested it. Hint: He had a little mustache, and he raised his hand often in class.)

And, I suggest you check your statistics. Not to make you MADD, but check out: http://www.alcoholfacts.org/ before you buy into the statistics that justify millions of dollars for salaries that benefit people who create false statistics.

I think that Mr. Maze has some valuble points. However, he is probably the same person who is against the DD List but will actively tout the Sex Offender list. While both would accomplish the same thing, save no lives and cost thousands of dollars.
