should cops and judges be held to a higher standard on braking the laws?

like cdl drivers can be put in jail for driving they,re own vehicle with a .04 breath analyzes.and cops dont give other cops tickets ,or turn them in for dui.they let them go and take them home.same with judges.

I also disagree. Officials are not only held to higher standards criminally, but often lose their jobs as well, a punishment far greater than what is imposed on the average citizen. Almost forgot to mention the extra adverse publicity.

yes b/c they are breaking so many. they think they can just do anything. its getting annoying to see how many crimes cops have done. as well as judges.

    That’s not always true.

A police officer will normally let another officer go if it was a minor offense. Same with judges. But they won’t just let anyone go. A judge a few counties away was arrested on a DUI not long ago. And look at the police officer accused of killing his wife – he’s not being overlooked as a suspect, either.

Many people think that officers believe they’re above the law. It’s just not true. Now, don’t get me wrong – some do. But I don’t think these people should be held to a higher standard for breaking a law – just the same standard as everyone else.

I beg to differ. Cops and former cops are held to a higher standard and often receive sentences much harsher than the average person. I personally know several officers that were taken to jail for DUI, lost their jobs and did some time for an offense that probably would have been thrown out for the random public. The days of the ‘good ole boy’ system is quiclky fading aways. Also, I have given breaks to numerous people who should have gone to jail for things such as DUI, or received traffic tickets and given them a ride home or called them a ride home.

    not a higher standard…

the same standard. regardless of position, police officers, judges, lawyers, celebrities, janitors, teachers, factory owrkers, corporate executives….they should all be held to the same standard. we are all citizens of this country, and as such, all should have to abide by the laws of the land.

And where do you get your facts? My partner was arested by DWI from our own department. I was broought in numerous times on officers arrested for DWI as a technician.
Lawmakers and judges are continuosly arrested for BREAKING such laws, as well as many other laws.

Now if you are asking on "braking"(sic) the law, is your implication that they stop the law?

Don’t make such an assumption without statistics or reliable sources.

My emotions say one thing, but my mind says another.
My emotions say that they should be held to a "higher standard" — unfortunately the current "higher standard" to which law enforcement is held is an illusion and a lie. Hence my biased emotions.
My mind says they should be held to the "same standard", as long as this standard is enforced, which it is not.
If they were held to ANY standard, it would be a start.

  8. Not To Serious says:

Yes they should be held to a higher standard since they are suppose to know the law better than the average citizen.

Just recently one of my fellow Officers had been arrested and had to stay for 2 nights in the same Jail that he put so many people in. He was arrested for domestic battery, she was not put in to the hospital, not even looked at by medical personal. He was plastered through out the newspapers, front page articles his full name and addy and Job title, badge number. Guilty or not, tell me he isn’t held to a higher standard. I dint see the avg Joe getting front page headlines for same stuff.
