My father in law is applying for a new job at a factory. In the application it asks if you have ever been convicted of a criminal offence for which you were not pardoned. He was convicted of DUI over 15 yrs ago. He put this on the application but he's wondering the likelyhood that he would be hired despite this. Will a potential employer scrap his application or will he still be considered?
We live in Canada. He was going to get a pardon but it's around 00.00.

He did the right thing by telling the employer that he received a DUI 15 years ago because if the employer does a background check on your father the DUI will show up even though it has been 15 years ago. With that being said the employer should realize that the DUI offense was 15 years ago and should not affect your father in getting the job. The reason why the employer asks this question is to determine whether the possible employee has an ongoing drug problem and or theft offense.

i wouldn’t think something so long ago would hurt his chances. Unless it’s a job where he would driving, i.e. trucker or something.

He should be honest. I doubt that a conviction 15 years ago will hinder his application. However, he should seek an expungement of the DUI. Get on your state’s website or go see an attorney about it.

    Don’t tell them anything.

That’s none of their business anyway.

    Deny, deny, deny.
