If you wait 7 years does a DUI automatically go off your record, even if you didn't go to court for it?
A friend of mine got a DUI about 5 years ago and never showed up to court. For some reason he seems to think that if he waits 7 years, it automatically goes off your record and you can get another license. Is this true? We're in California, so only if you're familiar with the laws here, please. ...

Casey is right…and wrong. Your friend is an idiot–criminal charges do not go away if you ignore them. There is quite probably a warrant issued for his arrest. What Casey is wrong about is that DUI is a felony–it is a misdemeanor (as is the failure to appear charge which was probably filed as well), and that he would be denied bail–he is statutorily entitled to bail, but he could expect it to be high.

he’s going to have to pay a fine period
and his license will be on hold.
Simple traffic, Misdemeanor crimes (like DUI0 and Felonies all have one thing in common. They NEVER go off your record.
Now, if you friend has a suspended driver’s license he is allowed to pay a reinstatement fee at the end of the suspension period along with SR22 insurance to re apply to drive.
The failure to appear on a criminal charge stays on your record.

There is a warrant out for his arrest for not appearing.
He will get picked up if ever stopped by the Police for a driving infraction.
He can not get his license renewed with a warrant out.
If he is picked up he will go to jail. Bail will be denied because they can’t trust him to show up in court.
A DUI is a felony. Felonies never disappear and can not be expunged.
He needs to be a man and deal with this.
Not true. He should also try to see if he has any warrants issued for him for his failure to appear along with any fines he had.
