I'm trying to figure out whether I will be subject to Nevada's DUI laws, or California's? If the answer is Nevada's...is there any way I can avoid the 10 days in jail? I've heard one day counts as three, and that if I enroll in a DUI program before my court date it will only be a minimum of 5 and then I'll only have to go back for one day. However, I'm a full time student and caretaker for my ailing Grandmother who recently suffered two strokes. If I brought a notarized letter from my Grandmother and a letter from her doctor, is it possible to convert the remaining jail time into a larger fine, or house arrest, or even community service? Please advise.

  1. Golden says:

i don’t know what or from whom you’ve "heard" these things, but here’s what the state says:

Driver license revoked for 90 days. After 45 days, you may be eligible to apply for a restricted license that will enable you to drive to work and back.
Jail sentence of at least two days and up to six months, or 96 hours of community service.
Fine of at least $400 and up to $1,000.
Mandatory attendance at DUI school; average cost is $150 for tuition.
Possible order to attend a substance-abuse treatment program.

you’re lucky. around here it would cost you a minimum $10k (total) plus all the hassle of schools, meetings, probation/UAs, community service, etc.

Ten days? That’s all they give you for risking other people’s lives? Take it and be glad that you didn’t kill somebody. Stop drinking and driving.
