Same answer as before.
Your age won’t disqualify you, but your prior record may if it is recent.
a DUI or bad driving record probably won’t, neither will age. most law enforcement will take anyone as long as you don’t have a felony or serious (other than marijuana) drug use
DUI would disqualify you from a lot of jobs for a while – I worked HR for an outpatient healthcare firm (where medical personnel visit homebound patients) and when someone had a DUI on their record, we just didn’t hire them.
If you have a DUI and want to be a police officer, by all means, try! The worst they can do is say no! I can’t safely say it would disqualify you at all! But if you don’t have a DUI, don’t get one.
Why should they hire you if you may drive and drink? Apply and tell the truth on your application. You never know. I think your age is a perfect age to become an officer. But you must be clean. I think it’s an honorable occupation.
It’s all dependent on the department or organization you apply for. If you apply for certain federal LE positions which may include a SSBI (single scope background investigation) or SECRET clearance (or higher), then don’t expect to be hired. If you apply to a local department thats hurting for manning and has low standards, then you might fit right in. Also, most Highway Patrol/ State Trooper organizations tend to favor clean driving records, as traffic enforcement is their bread and butter (among other things). So the basic answer is NO, it will not automatically disaqualify you from ALL LEO jobs. But YES it will disqualify you from SOME.
As far as age is concerned, visit the website of the department which you wish to apply for. They will have all the basic requirements to include age listed.
Your age Will not be a factor. Depending on how recent your DUI and other driving matters are will effect how much they matter during the hiring process. I have a good friend who received a DUI and is now a state trooper.
In my state 27 is not too old, however your past driving record is a concern.
You are going to be driving pursuit vehicles through heavy traffic and you have a history of bad driving practices.
Many lawyers dream of someone like you to make them rich. All they have to prove is the police department should have known you were a lousy driver and then allowed you to put the public at risk.
AGE NOT A PROBLEM BUT DRIVING RECORD WILL!
A DUI or a bad record (speeding, reckless driving etc.) will disqualify you. It is all about liability to the department and city that hires you. If they hire you and later on you crash and kill someone…guess what the first thing that will be looked at…..you guessed it. You see where I’m going with this. Your age is not a problem whatsoever.
