Absolutely. They do not do criminla back ground check for law school. My godfather got a DUI and spent two years in prison for drugs. He got out, cleaned up his act, ended up at Georgetown and make a killing as a lawyer now. You will have to work a little harder to overcome this but it is not the end of the world! Good luck in you quest. Wish you the best!

No – they are a teaching academy, not the police! They dont care – you could be a career criminal and they would still teach you! Whether or not you will get a job after law school – thats another matter. Look for an attorneys office that doesnt offer a free car!

    Is your DUI a felony?

If you are a convicted felon, you may have trouble when trying to pass the BAR exam. You may be able to get a law degree, but not into the BAR.

    Good luck.

Of Course… most lawyers are alcoholics…

Seriously, an old DUI should not deter you. You must however, discose it if the application asks for it. This is important because, when you ultimately take the bar exam, there is usually a character and fitness requirement to be admitted to practice law– essentially akin to a background check– they will check your criminal record, law school application, etc. As long you disclose this DUI and not conceal it, it is not going to stop you from being admitted. On the other hand, if they find you out that your law school application asked for this information and you did not provide it, that could be a basis for your not being admitted to practice law.

(Alot of states do not admit lawyers with felony convictions or crimes involving honesty– e.g. fraud.
