Are DUI laws out of control?
Is it just me, or do you think DUIs are blown out of proportion and nothing more than a revenue generating machine for the city and state governments? I drive ALL THE TIME at levels I know to be above .08. I drive better then because I’m much more cognizant of my fellow drivers, road conditions...

I drive ALL THE TIME at levels I know to be above .08. I drive better then because I’m much more cognizant of my fellow drivers, road conditions and speed limits as I know the added consequences of not adhering to each. As such, I’ve NEVER been pulled over or received a DUI for driving in an intoxicated state.
Surely there should be some reasonable limit at which there should be a penalty for driving above. But, .08 is only equivalent to having 3 - 4 beers for a 150 lb man. That’s nothing. NOTHING. The yappy woman on her cell phone or guy with blaring his radio puts his fellow drivers in more danger. Wouldn’t a more reasonable limit be .12 - .15?
Note: I don’t give a good goddamn about your “friend” killed by a drunk driver any more than I care about some stupid kid who played with a gun and accidentally killed his friend when formulating an opinion on gun laws. Each represent a minority. Considering either isn’t away to arrive a reasoned, thoughtful conclusion.

Yes and no. I don’t think that their is anything wrong with the law as it is. However, I have pulled over a number of people above the legal limit, and most of them are those people who had two glasses of wine or two bottles of beer in an hour. Are they drunk? No, not really, but according to the law they are.
The problem with the law that I do not like, is that our judical system, at least here in Indiana, sends most of these men/women to prison with no treatment. I believe that all drug and alcohol abusers should get at least one chance at rehab. These people have problems that prison isn’t going to solve, it only delays it. If they violate the conditions of rehab or are re-arrested for drugs or alcohol, then yes, send them to prison. But I believe they should be sent some place first to help them defeat their problem versus just trying to sweep it under the rug.
This is one of the main reasons that our jails/prisons are overcrowded. And who is paying for it, the taxpayer.
The only people who don’t like the DUI laws are the idiots who drive drunk all the time, like yourself. And you do not drive better at .08. This is a common thought among drunk drivers like yourself. It’s amazing, just amazing, that you haven’t killed someone yet but that will happen at some point. The laws are there because of people like you.

Just because you think you drive okay at .08 doesn’t mean everyone else does. For someone else, it could be different. The laws are not out of control.

just because you developed a feeling of invincibility from being hammered all the time doesn’t give you the right to put every motorist on the road in danger from your stupid actions.

All about money. In NJ I see cops sitting in their cars outside of bars at closing time. People go to bars to drink. Government tells us it’s okay to drink. Cops sit outside of bars and give tickets to people that lawfully had a few who have no way to get home but the way they came…. In their cars. It’s a joke.
No, personally I think they should be much stricter.
Perhaps you should take the Breathalzyer or Datamaster course before you start giving opinions on how much alcohol one can drink before blowing over .80. I know of small females who drank way more than 3-4 drinks before they blew over.
Not to mention the fact that every impaired driver I have ever dealt with has blown way more than .80. The usual amount is between 2 and 3 times that.
The last guy that gave me the argument of "being more cognizant" of his fellow drivers almost took out a pedestrian. He was paying so muc attention to not hitting the oncoming car, that he moved to the opposite side of the road where someone happened to be walking. He was of the same mindframe you are. He drove for 20 years before getting caught.
For the record, in Canada, Police are not allowed to sit outside a bar and wait for an impaired driver to drive away. Also, knowing a person just left a bar is not allowed to be part of you reasonable and probable grounds to read the breath demand.
I hope the first time you do get caught isn’t as a result of an accident.
You are a complete and total idiot, and it’s doubtful you’ll be missed when you kill yourself by driving drunk…I can only hope it happens before you kill someone else. The limits were set where they are for a reason, and contrary to what you’d like to convince yourself, no one was thinking of you and your opinions when they set it. I don’t need the government of MADD or anyone else to know that driving drunk is something only an idiot would do…so congratulations. Remember, it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
I agree that driving drunk is not a good thing,but people have a different tolerance level and should not be categorized at a certain level.Also why not have laws for certain other driving habits,such as just being plain stupid,or not knowing how to drive at all,or going to slow,or turning on your lights and siren to get to the coffee shop???
