Having known a few people that had their first DUI (while also previously having clean records) it went something like this.
Person 1: Given breathalyzer and failed, registering well over the legal limit. Plead guilty and had license suspended for 60 days. Had to take multiple drunk driving classes, pay several thousand in fines and fees.
Person 2: Refused breathalyzer. Automatically arrested. Bailed out. Plead not guilty. Went to trial several months later and found guilty. Paid several thousand in fines. License suspended for 6 months. Also had to pay a large fee to lawyer for several appearances in court. End result was about $4,000.
Person 3: Given breathalyzer and failed with a .08, exactly the minimum for intoxication. License suspended for 90 days. Paid fines and had to take classes.
They like to nail you a little bit no matter what if you come in with a previously clean record. My advice is to plead guilty, which is an option I believe. You can change your plea almost at any point. Take the license suspension and pay the fines. You will, however, pay several thousand dollars in the end in fines, court fees, and class fees, as well as paying your lawyer.
You wrote that it was in Las Vegas. I’ve seen billboards in Vegas that say if you are willing to pay a lawyer 500 to 1500 dollars they can take care of the court dealings for you. However, I’m sure you’ll be subject to any fines and discipline that they deal out if you live in another state. I.E., they can still suspend your license and make you take mandatory classes.
You supposed to need picture ID — usually driving license or passport or other government ID — to fly. (In fact there’s no law that says you need one of those, but if you’re an adult and don’t have it you will suffer such hassle that you might as well comply.)

I have a warrant for not showing up to court for a DUI and my lawyer is going to take care of that in 2 weeks. The problem is my boyfriends birthday is next week and he wants to fly to vegas to celebrate. My question is what if i get arrested in the airport for the misdemeanor warrant? and i definately do not want to get arrested for something stupid as that but we really dont want to drive to vegas.. please only decent answers. thanks

I was arrested in Las Vegas with the proposed charge of DUI. I live back East and need a lawyer to represent me here and appear for my court date (which isn’t for another 3 months). I’m having a hard time finding a good lawyer that will handle an out-of-state dui. I don’t have a whole lot of money, but will spend what it takes to get this taken care of. Did the DUI cause any serious accident that someone was injured or killed?
If not and this is her first, she should have gotten the money to put down the bail money with the bail bonds.
She had chosen not to pay the bonds for the bail money.
That means she has to do the time due to lack of funding.
You should not be required to plead until you know what you are pleading to. That includes the severity of the offence. It is quite surprising that the tests are not in, but in a civilised court system you would get a continuance. What if you plead guilty but the tests show you are under the limit and have therefore not committed an offence? If the tests are not there and you are forced to plead, plead not guilty and insist that the case be run immediately. Without the tests the prosecution will not be able to prove their case and it will be dismissed.
How to plead in a dui case?
I live in Las Vegas. I was arrested for DUI on May 14th, that was almost 3 months ago. My license have yet to be suspended as I took the blood test instead of doing the breathalyzer. I guess my blood test results are not in so i dont know how much i was over the legal limit if at all. I know i was drunk but tomorrow is my court date, how should i plead? Please dont lecture me, i learned my lesson and i will never drive under the influence again. Right now, i just need to know how to plead. Dont want to make the wrong choice. Cant afford a lawyer but im sure i could get a public defender. Can they even do anything without my blood test resulst?
no, brendan, they dont have my test results, and the reason i know that is because when the test results are in, the copy is sent to the dmv. DMV then sends me a letter saying my license were suspended. My license are yet to be suspended therefore that shows the blood results are not in. I dont know why i asked for advice here, my bad for assuming people on here know what they are talking about. I should have known most of you just talk out of your asses
its really hard to make a decision, some people say if i plead guilty the judge will slam me with the max penalty so i should plead not guilty and go on trial. Others have advised me to plead guilty because i will get a lighter sentence because the judge will admire my honesty.
Probation Violation in Las Vegas ?
I read up on the laws concerning Probation violations in Las Vegas. However, I am being told different things from different people.
I was told that my friend already had an arraignment for her DUI from the PO’s supervisor.
I was told there is no arraignment for a probation violation.
I was told that Parole and Probation take their time in scheduling a court date.
I was told that Parole and Probation has up to 45 days to schedule a court date (I guess from the arrest date-not the date of the incident).
I was told that it could take up to 60 or 90 days to schedule a court date.
I callrd the detention center and they say it’s up to Parole and Probation to schedule a court date.
I called to Parole and Probation and they say it’s up to the court to schedule a court date.
What should I believe? I have no clue how long this will take. My stomach is in knots.
She has a lawyer and I was told that they are trying to get her counselling since she was paying all of her monthly fines, she was working full time with a good job, she was taking care of her family and she was going to all of her PO meetings back in the summer of this year. (They PO meetings only lasted about 13 weeks). I was told that she was doing really good (which I already knew).
Also I have a few other questions.
I was told that people in CCDC can not make collect calls out of state. I am in Southern California. Can they only make collect calls to Nevada? I wrote her a letter informing her that she can call me collect.
Is there any difference from the 1st floor to the 4th floor? I mean are certian kind of inmates on floor 1 and others are on floor 2, etc? She is on the 4th floor. I do not even know if she has a cell mate or not.
What is the best that I can expect in time wise for a court date so I can go. (I was told from the PO that I can go if I wanted to). I am hoping for a time before Christmas.

Oh also. Not sure if her plea was guilty or innocent on the DUI charge. I was told that that plea would impact her stay in CCDC. Appeartly, they process the new charges first then take care of the probation.
