Drinking and Driving in India

Drink driving is said to be common among drivers after sunset. There are 5-6 truck accidents on Sher Shah Suri Mag between New Delhi and Ambala Cantt at different places daily. Almost 50% of these accidents are due to drunken driving. Most of the Indian truck drivers involved in drugs too. Car owners use to attend dinners and get drunk, indulge in fast driving and are unable to control the vehicle and face accidents. It is estimated that about 60-65% of accidents are being caused because of drunk driving and one wheeling during night and early hours of morning. A survey about driving n India found that more than 50% of cars are driven by drivers who had used alcoholic drinks. Students of schools and colleges mix drink with driving for excitement and face accidents. Speed thrills and fast driving but kills is very much applicable to this group of drivers. The practice of drink driving is increasing among students and youngsters. Drink driving in India among women has also increased. A report under the title "High spirits take toll on the roads of Bangalore" shows that driving with drugs and alcohol is common among Bangalore people on Sundays and Saturdays leading to accidents.
The Bangalore city reports highest number of accident happens on weekends between 7.00 pm to 11.00 pm and this could be for any kind of reason other than drink driving. According to city police, 580 accidents occur in 1993, 110 accidents were on Saturday nights and an average of 70-90 accidents were reported on other week days. Nowadays, drink driving in India has become very common. What are most difficult factors to determine whether the accident was because of drinking? The drivers invariably escape, only to be found later when alcohol effect would have damaged their body. The people at accident spot focus on taking injured to hospital rather than blaming driver and if they do find driver somewhere, he would be beaten badly. Near the swanks pubs which are considered as the toast of the city, little bars have sprung up on the highways causing accidents on these dangerous roads.
There is not a single highway in India where no accident occurs during 24 hours. The best way to avoid accidents is to check drink driving in India. The abundance of bars and liquor shop on highways are main causes of rising fatal accidents on highways. Buses and truck parked near liquor shops is a common sight. In bigger cities like Delhi and Mumbai, there are tests to check drink driving. And also there are no such services available on highways. And no special equipments to detect effectively on drink driving in India. The traditional way of blowing into a balloon has become outdated. It is desirable that excise departments to be checked by liquor shops and bars to create highways safe for drivers and people moving on roads. Although the rules and laws to check drink driving do exist in India, there is a need to effectively apply these laws.

In Many parts of Mexico there is no laws and a lot of lawlessness going on.Much of the police work for the drug cartel you think a Mexican cop is going to risk pulling over a cartel member , don’t think so. That dude with his teen stats, you do know those stats include everything even if it has nothing to do with the drunk driver, if someone is stopped for drinking and driving and someone is driving falls asleep has a accident they blame the drunk driver, this stat is included in the DUI stop. IF anybody can show me that more deaths come from drinking and driving than both wars ,which equals out they claim to be over 17 thousand people a year die just from drinking and driving and within a five year period over 85 thousand people have died from drinking and driving ?
Why do Mexicans think drinking and driving is ok since Mexico has no drinking and driving laws?
Why do Mexicans think drinking and driving is ok since Mexico has no drinking and driving laws for their citizens it is the same here ?
Most tests are directed at the meaning of signs and actual driving laws. They do not expect you to be a lawyer to get a license. You should have a booklet with all that you are required to know.
Is there any new drivers questions on drivers written test? Like new drinking driving laws?
Why does the U.S has a high legal drinking age but lax drunk driving laws compared to other countries?
If I am able to die for this country at the age of 18 then I should be able to drink a glass of wine. I am not talking about getting drink and driving a car, I am talking about walking to the bar and ordering a beer.
I am an individual and not a statistic
Because there are liberals who want to control everything you do, and the irrational religious groups that think because it feels good, its a sin and we must make laws against sin ( never figured out why either of them dont shut up and mind their business, I dont tell them not to drink soda). And because alot of young people are stupid, they think that the only point of alcohol is to get drunk (alot of Americans over 21 think like that unfortunately, we are a great country but we have the largest amount of idiots IMHO). It should be lowered, and I believe that would cut down on alot of drinking deaths. Its also the fact that all politicians are over 21, and just want to stick it to young people (alot of older people hate young people for some reason).
I got a question for you guys to just think over though. Why is the penalty for underage drinking harsher than the penalty for DUI (my state the menalty for minor in possession is 6 months in jail, and the penalty for drunk driving is 72 hours in jail for the first offense)?
information about Germany Drinking and Driving Laws ?
Okaaay, im in a Military Family and my Dad is getting orders to Germany. I just wanted to know what are the legal driving and drinking ages. Like is it different on and off base ? I was researching it myself and i saw that the legal age to buy beer and wine was 16. And driving was 18. Is that different for Americans ? Thank You.
Dear Meme Babe,
Okay, my father was career military and I lived in Germany 3 years as a high school student. That was many years ago. But like the US, European countries have been imposing stricter and stricter DUI laws over the past 10 years. ‘Drinking’ is one thing. ‘Drinking and Driving’ is another. It’s a crime that can put you in jail bigtime. Even wine-guzzling France has strict drinking and driving laws now, for the simple reason that innocent people die when people are allowed to drink and drive.
THE BIG POINT HERE IS the fact that your father is US military stationed in a foreign country and you are there for no other reason than you are his dependent. Do not take this lightly: whatever you do reflects on your father. If you have a drinking/driving accident, your father’s employer, the US military, is going to hear about it–for legal reasons for one thing, given you are US military (or US military dependent) who has to appear before a German or other foreign court–and for the reason that the US military does not want to be embarrassed by the behavior of its forces, or their dependents, in a foreign country. As I was taught in school, ‘We American dependents are ambassadors for the United States.’ For a 3rd reason, if you do have an accident you can be sure that everybody in your military community is going to know about it–your classmates, your neighbors, your teachers, your mother’s friends, all of your father’s superiors, everybody.
So, for your father’s sake, forget about drawing the fine line between ‘when you can legally drink, and how much can you legally drink and get away with, etc.,’ because chances are you’ll misjudge ‘how much you legally drank’ anyway. And foreign courts are often not kind to Americans who break the law (especially France).
So do your father a favor and don’t drink and drive under any circumstances. If still in doubt, ASK YOUR FATHER his opinion on this matter. Regarding ‘what age can you legally drive’–ask your father to find out for you.
Good luck to you–you’re going to love Germany!
