Car Insurance: The true cost of Drink Driving

Nowadays with the daily costs of motoring on the rise many motorists are cutting down on the money they spend whether it's travelling throughout their town to find the cheapest petrol prices or simply trying to cut back on using their cars so much. One of the main areas drivers are able to cut back on the expense of owning a car is insurance.
Car Insurance for the right person can be a fairly cheap expense whereas if you're a fairly reckless driver then car insurance can become a nightmare and even force people off the road due to the crippling costs. How do some people earn low insurance premiums then? Well it is all based on risk assessment, the insurance company's judge from your record and the model of car that you drive how risky it will be to cover you.
If you've got a small engine and a clean license then there's every chance that with a few years of uneventful driving that you'll get a nice discount. However if you're driving a high powered super car or have a few driving convictions and claims on your record then unfortunately you'll be looking at premiums well above the thousands of pounds mark.
A recent study into motorists has found something that everyone should avoid partially because it is against the law and deadly but will also send your insurance costs skyrocketing: Driving under the influence. Driving after you have had an alcoholic drink and being convicted of doing so can send people's car insurance premiums up by as much as 91%.
Other examples of poor driving such as speeding can raise insurance premiums by ten percent with persistent offenders ending up with increases around 83 percent. As well as this expense if you drive recklessly in this manner then you are much more likely to be at fault in a road accident which would rob you of any no claims bonus that you may have accrued.
No claims bonuses are treasured by motorists as of late as it is often one of the few ways drivers can cut their premiums down to a manageable size, driving whilst under the influence can take away not only your license and give you a driving ban but it can mean that when you eventually become eligible again that you will struggle to find an insurer let alone a favourable premium cost.
Sorry dude, you;ve got a problem. Try to negotiate with them with your best puppy dog face.
If they are charged as misdemeanors, as drunk driving charges often are, then yes. If the drunk driving charge is reduced to an infraction, then no.
Is being charged with no insurance, drink driving classed as a criminal prosecution?
Isnt it classed as a road traffic violation?
Just done a search on google and there loads of companies that specialise in it.
i crashed my friends car into a van drink driving so insurance is void how do the cars get payed for ?
yeah does that mean they will get payed out then i will pay for it weekly ? like to the goverment or something ?
Claim on insurance after drink driving?
Can someone claim on their comprehensive car insurance, if they crash their car, and is prosecuted for drink driving afterwards?
I would like to add, that it wasnt me!!
And this is from England.
It will depend on the policy and the type of accident. If the drink driver was hit in the rear then it will be the other drivers fault and the insurance company probably won’t worry at all as they will get their money back (and the policyholder will get their excess back if they have the correct cover). In this situation it is actually better to go directly throught the third party insurers anyway as they will pay for extras – like an improved courtesey car.
A lot of insurance policies will not exclude drink driving. They have to cover all damage to TP’s where the driver is at fault regardless of whether the driver was drunk or on drugs. You will probably find that they also cover own damage on a fully comp policy.
In theory the insurance company can attempt to recoiver the costs from a drink driver. However, this can be a costly process and usually does not recover the full amount (especually when any serious injuries are involved). On that basis they probably won’t
One thing for definite though, they will refuse to renew the insurance the following year if a conviction is made and no other reputable insurer will take on a driver with a recent dd conviction.
Drink driving insurance?
I was convicted of drink driving last year. Just got my driving licence back. Does anybody know where I can get cheap car insurance, theres loads of companies that say they specialise in convicted driver insurance but some of the prices I have been quoted have been astronomical. £1000+, Ive tried all the comparison sites, is there any companies out there that specialise in providing insurance for convicted drink drivers?
Just found this place http://www.drinkdriving.org/drink_driving_car_insurance.php. Cheapest so far. And yes, I sure have learnt my lesson, it was a morning after the night before, I thought I was ok, obviously I wasnt. Didnt drink and drive intentionally and recklessly, any more suggestions? btw is UK insurance companies I need.
