Don't drink and drive this Christmas
Author: Seth Marston
With the festive period fast approaching, it's always worthwhile drawing up a budget for the most expensive period of the year. This can help you get through the festive period without spending more than you expected to. One aspect of a budget you should account for is travel; it can often be costly around Christmas with taxis often charging double fare and public transport services being disrupted. Saving on these fees may save a small fortune for various social occasions across this busy time.
The potential cost of drink driving is however much greater, being breathalysed and being found to be over the limit can often bring more than financial costs. Being in charge of a vehicle with excess levels of alcohol in your system can cost you not only a whopping 10 points on your licence but also a fine of up to £2500, or you could exchange the fine for a fee of up to 3 months in prison. Which of course is also not ideal (in fact a disaster) especially for something that you could avoid with a taxi fare home.
The limit may seem a fixed limit, but the amount of units can depend on factors surrounding you and your health. These factors include:
- Your age (young people tend to process alcohol more slowly)
- How much you have eaten
- Your metabolism
- Your weight
- Stress levels
- Gender ( women tend to process alcohol slower than men)
These factors show how wildly your tolerance can sway between nights, drinking on a Friday night straight after getting home from work may cause you to absorb alcohol more quickly after not eating and also being stressed and tired from the working week, whereas your threshold for alcohol may be higher on a Saturday after a lie in and a day off work. All in all, this shows if you are going to drive on an evening out, be sure to either stick to a single drink that keeps you under the limit significantly or preferably don't drink at all.
Local police forces look to crack down on drink driving over the festive period, stopping and testing more cars over this period than usual. It is simply not worth the risk, paying that cab fare and having a nice night may be the best idea for yours and others safety on the road.
Used car finance could be a useful way for you to replace your old car for a newer model, you can get a bad credit car loan if you don't have sufficient credit to get an ordinary loan.
How long does a drink driving charge stay on your CRB? UK only?
I thought a drink driving charge stayed on your criminal record 11 years and on your driving license for 5 years? Please help!
Right drink driving is a criminal conviction for those that don’t know?! In the UK, if convicted how long does it stay on a CRB check and how long doesit show on DVLA?
Depends on the drink driving offence and the sentence.
For the licence:
These stay on yuor driving licence for eleven years from date of CONVICTION.
DR10 Driving or attempting to drive with alcohol level above limit
DR20 Driving or attempting to drive while unfit through drink
DR30 Driving or attempting to drive then failing to supply a specimen for analysis
DR80 Driving or attempting to drive when unfit through drugs
These stay on your driving licence for eleven years from date of OFFENCE.
DR40 In charge of a vehicle while alcohol level above limit
DR50 In charge of a vehicle while unfit through drink
DR60 Failure to provide a specimen for analysis in circumstances other than driving or attempting to drive
DR70 Failing to provide specimen for breath test

For the criminal record:
-most convictions become spent after five years
-prison sentences up to six months become spent after seven years
-prison sentences up to 2.5 years are spent after 10 years
-sentences over 2.5 years are never spent
Rehabilitation periods are halved if you were under 18 when convicted.
For drink driving, assuming you were not sent to prison but recieved an endorsement, disqualificatrion and a fine, the rehabilitation period is five years.
A full list is included here:

For a CRB check:
If your conviction is spent, you do not need to disclose it However, because the post you are applying for is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, convictions both spent and unspent will show up.
Make sure that the post is indeed exept from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, otherwise the check is unlawful. Posts that are exempt include those where you would be working closely with children or vulnerable adults, approved posts in the financial sector, security services, taxi drivers and health care work.
NO.
did you do the right thing and hand in your License to the D.o.T on the day of the Court case? you are obligated to , by Law…!
then they give you a written Receipt to prove that you`ve done the correct procedure. (this helps when re-applying for the License)
the 6 points may be one`s that have accumulated before the dui offence. they`ve only caught up with it now.
they DO perform Audits on a regular basis , you know..!
if you`ve done ALL of the right things , then may-be some-one else matches your Records and Profile…..if this is so , you need to prove to them that it`s not you and how can you do that with-out `photo ID?
after-all , any phone book in Australia has MY name in it about 70 or more times. your name is not unique and the D.o.T is NOT …… perfect.
check it out before Panic-ing and remember to remain “Calm” while dealing with these Public Servants , they get enough crap every-day for no reason and if you cheese them off, they CAN and DO make it hard for you….!
good luck in proving your-self right.

Can the Dept of Transport cancel your licence after drink driving charge even if you have served period?
I was caught drink driving in September & was disqualified from driving until March 08. I just got a letter from Dept of Transport saying that my licence has been cancelled which came effective at the commencement of the court imposed disqualification. I also got another letter from them saying that I was well on my way to losing my licence and had 6 demerit points. Can anyone help please?
