if I plead guilty to a DWI in Austin Texas and receive probation (1 year) how bad is it, 1st offense?
never been in trouble, DA claims to have a witness but he cannot be found by my lawyer. DA offers 1 yr probation. How bad is it? I was not even in the possession of my keys when cops arrived. Cop had to get them from another person at the scene. My lawyer wants to fight it, what options and does a class B misd really ruin your future?

What is my likely punishment for 1st DWI?
I’m 21 years old and I live in Austin, TX…I just got arrested for my first and LAST DWI. I have no prior criminal history and I just wanted to know if anyone knew what my punishment is most likely to be and if I really need a lawyer that is not just the court appointed attorney. Advice?
The only reason I want a lawyer is so I can get the sentencing reduced as much as possible. Its a Class B misdemeanor in my case.

He has been here for 9 years. He is a great guy and doesnt deserve to get sent back to a place he isnt famillar with. There has to be some loophole. it cant just be final.please. any good lawyers in the austin texas area? or maybe some possible cases where someone did something worse and was pardoned?
lets just send every ut student that has a dwi charge out of this country.
First of all: to all you narrow minded people…..He is not some illegal mexican that crossed the border. He came from columbia to go to school and better his life. All of you that are writing horrible comments…..I bet you have friends that have had a dwi. And you can get one of those by having two beers and being pulled over by not using your blinker. yall make it sound like he has no respect for this country. You are all probably just rednecks with shotguns sitting next to you.

yes, get a lawyer to apply for a waiver. it’s very expensive, but might help. but like all immigration matters, it is not a sure thing. i believe there’s a law out that immigrants can adjust their status if they’ve been here for 10 years and have a dependent who’s an american citizen (child or spouse). good luck.

Why do advocates for illegals say drinking & driving is not a crime as long as you have kids & a family?
A lawyer for the third, Victor Arana, said his client, Angel Hernandez-Garcia, was arrested on Halloween on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Arana said his client, who has since pleaded guilty to the DWI charge, had been living in Austin with his wife and two children and working in construction.

His client, he said, is not a criminal.

“These are tough cases because there are families involved,” Arana said.

“The only difference is he was born on one side and we were born on the other side,” he said.

I think it sucks… and it is a classical rendition of lawyer logic. It is the reason we have the joke… what do you call 10,000 lawyers in the middle of the Atlantic? A good start.

Recently, a number of Hispanic Cops have said there is an enormous problem with Hispanic drinking. If we addressed that instead of finding socio pathic reason for behavior that are utterly bogus, we would be doing far, far better.

By the way… what do you call 300 congress person dumped in the middle of the ocean?
    Polluting.
