Dui School - Alcohol Education Classes For Drunk Driving Offenders

Author: johnsonmerel

In many cases, part of the penalty of a DUI conviction is a requirement to attend an Alcohol Education class, aka 'DUI School'. Sometimes you may also be required to attend DUI classes for defensive driving lessons. The material covered in an alcohol awareness course will differ somewhat depending on the state which you are convicted in and whether or not this is your first DUI conviction. Even if you aren't required by law to attend an education program, you may feel you still should enroll in one if you have a long term drinking problem. This article will explain what you can expect from alcohol education programs after a conviction.

If it is your first conviction, the class you are required to attend may only last a few hours over a day or two during the weekend. If it is your second or third conviction, however, you may be expected to enroll in a full alcohol rehabilitation program for an ongoing period of time as a part of your sentence. In this case, failure to show up for the rehabilitation program could have jail consequences or large fines. On the positive side, successfully completing DUI classes can help you get other penalties reduced. However, you will have to actively participate in the class and show that you've learned something - just being there isn't enough.

Be aware that alcohol education programs are often very expensive and can serve as a kind of additional fine on top of any penalties imposed by the court. This is something to take into account if you are considering voluntarily signing up for a program, but if you know you have a drinking problem, the cost of a DUI school will be a lot less than getting a repeat conviction for DUI - the more convictions you get, the more severe the consequences become and the greater the chances that you may end up in an accident that causes injury to yourself or other people.

Driving courses are usually fairly simple and cover basic fundamentals of safe driving on the roads, emphasizing risk avoidance and how to spot hazards.

Taking alcohol and DUI classes can also have financial benefits in the long term. Some insurance companies take into account whether or not you have completed one of these programs and they may be willing to reduce your premiums if they see evidence that you are a safe driver. So while the upfront costs may seem high, they can start to pay for themselves in the long run in reduced premiums.

yea they wont be charged with the PAC(prohibited alcohol concentration) statute but by law one of the 2 DUI charges with alcohol has to be dismissed anyways(either the DUI or the PAC)…. it will end up being the same punishment plus a possession charge most likely

since it’s Agg. DUI it could be a felony and he would face a max sentence of at least a year in prison

Is there a difference in the way someone is charged if the DUI is drug related, not alcohol?
I live in Arizona, and my friend is in jail for a drug (Marijuana) DUI, rather than an alcohol related DUI. It is classified an Aggravated DUI since he lost his license a while back, and unfortunately he is facing another DUI for the same type of thing. I am trying to figure out if there is a difference between the way he is being charged because it is drug related. Any advice would be wonderful at this moment!
    Thanks!!!!!

The majority of the alcohol cooks out – even in the cakes that are “soaked with booze”
If a very large amount is used, there may be a very small amount of alcohol left in the food, but nowhere near enough to result in a DUI charge.

Just completed the WV alcohol safety program for DUI?
In WV I just totally finished the alcohol and drug safety treatment program as required by the WV DMV for a DUI in WV. I was wondering how long the DMV took to send me a letter or something, or should I call the DMV? I have paid all my fines and need to reinstate my license.

It is correct that the smell of alcohol on your breath can be probable cause for a DUI arrest, however, as has been pointed out Diabetics have what are called “ketone bodies” in their blood which can be mistaken for the smell of alcohol.

It requires an accurate blood test for alcohol to make an accurate determination of your true blood alcohol level.

Also, breathalyzers are inaccurate and often read 50 to 100% higher than your true blood alcohol level.

I doubt they are going to contact you. Bring the paperwork showing you completed the classes to the DMV.

Can smell of alcohol in breath lead to DUI conviction?
This is a question from my driver’s ed class. If a policeman smells alcohol on someone’s breath is that enough for him to arrest them for DUI? My question is how can he prove the person’s breath smelled of alcohol?

Does anyone know of anyone getting a DUI of alcohol without drinking but eatting foods made with alcohol?
I was watching that food detective show and there was a question asked about how much alcohol that is used to cook stays in the foods. That got me thinking about if anyone ever got a DUI because of the alcohol in the foods they ate and not because what they drank.

I know its probably confusing but if anyone gets what i mean and can answer it that would be cool.

    Thanks
