Take an Online Course in Responsible Alcohol Retailing
Author: Bruce
Responsible alcohol retailing is necessary if we as a conscientious society are going to limit the ills caused by alcohol. Drink driving, binge drinking, pavements awash in urine and vomit and alcohol fueled violence are just some of the problems caused by the 'Friday night piss-up'. Many of our young people now routinely drink themselves senseless. There has been much talk about where to place the blame, but rather than engage in finger pointing it is important for everyone to step up and do their part to put an end to the binge drinking culture.
Certainly an argument could be made that it is the drinker themselves that must learn to say 'when'. And although in the general sense that is true, it is a proven fact that too much alcohol impairs judgment. This is where responsible alcohol retailing comes into play. If those selling alcohol are vigilant and aware when a customer has passed the line of reasonable consumption then they can cut the customer off before the inebriation level reaches untenable heights. How do you learn the ins and outs of responsible retailing? Exactly when and how do you cut a customer off?
In Great Britain you have access to NCPLH (National Certification for Personal License Holders) training that is designed to instruct you in the methods of responsible alcohol retailing. For owners and or operators of pubs and other establishments that sell alcohol, this training will answer questions about the problems of binge drinking and give you specific methods for dealing with customers who have over-indulged, those you suspect of attempting drink driving, and violence brought on by alcohol consumption. These courses are designed to teach you how to avoid problems before they start by recognizing common signs and signals that a customer has had too much to drink.
You can study the NCPLH course on responsible alcohol retailing online. This 5 hour course is easy to complete in the comfort of your own home. Use the online practice test to ensure that you are ready and then register to take the official invigilated test at a testing centre near you. The local pub is a sterling part of Britain's character - urinating in the street, drink fueled violence and drink driving are not. Do your part to ensure that your 'local' be it pub, club or restaurant is practicing responsible retailing and helping to eliminate the blight of binge drinking.
Is it illegal to drink alcohol while driving a car (in the UK)?
Obviously I am not talking about if you were over the drink drive blood alcohol limit.
I will attempt a clarification to try to narrow down the responses.
Take the case where someone is drinking a can of coke in the car having just left the pub where they had consumed half a pint of beer. However, this person is an experienced driver and is in complete control of the vehicle, there is no one else on the road. I think most people would agree that this person is not guilty of careless driving.
Now contrast this with the case where the same circumstances are in place but the person had a glass of coke in the pub and it drinking a can of beer in the car.
Is there a specific law which comes into play in the latter example?
It is NOT ILLEGAL to “Drink alcohol” whilst driving, there is no LAW which specifically forbids that…
It is illegal to be over the prescribed limit.
As stated above however new best practise guidelines in the highway code class it as a “distraction” the same as smoking, listening to loud music, eating or getting a BJ. This means that the police COULD charge you with “driving without due care and attention” if you had a crash or give you a fixed penalty if you were driving, unlikely though…
The fact that it’s alcohol does not make it illegal, but I do know of a person who was successfully charged for drinking from a can of coke while driving, she was spotted by a police officer while she drove quite safely across an empty zebra crossing for not being in proper control of the vehicle.
You just need to exercise a bit of common sense while doing so, but I say again, it’s not the fact of whether it’s alcohol or not.
How many alcohol units does the standard legal drink driving limit equal to?
the legal limit of alcohol before driving is 80mgh of alcohol per 100ml of blood or 35mg per 100ml breath but most alcoholic drinks have guidelines in units so wondering how many units would equal the max legal limit
No it isnt .It is only an offence to drive whilst the amount of alcohol in your blood is above the precribed limit in the UK.
It varies greatly for each person. I’ve known people have 5 pints and pass the intoximeter test. (failed roadside)
Is it illegal to drink alcohol whilst driving even if you are under the legal limit?
Ignoring the fact that physically drinking anything whilst driving might take your attention off the road, is it actually illegal to D&D whilst behind the wheel or do you actually have to be over the limit?
Sorry should have pointed out that this question is UK specific.
Should the UK drink drive limit be the same as Australia’s ZERO alcohol aloud while driving?
Driving a car is a privilege NOT a right, The person in the other car that has been hit by a drink driver might not actual want to be dead
It has also been proven that VERY small amounts of alcohol increase the chances of accidents.
I have been saying this for many years!!!
If you drive …..you don’t drink.
If you wanna drink then don’t drive.
It would stop all this “am I over the limit stuff!”
My very tall male friend once got stopped and tested and passed the test after having 3 pints!! Insane! yet some people are over on 1 drink!!There is no proper rule, therefore it should just be zero!!
Is it an offence to drink alcohol whilst driving?
Under uk law is it illegal to drink alcohol whilst driving if you do NOT exceed the legal limit. For example sipp just one bottle of beer?
