What alternatives are there to jail or prison for someone who has a DUI / DWI conviction?

    heavy into alcoholic and drug counseling…
    have them take the alcohol/drug test randomly..if fail go to jail
    no driving for one year…minimum..if driving on restriction then go to jail..for a year
    probation for a year..community service..one year..weekends
    if you do the crime..you must do the time

    I would guess it would depend on if there was an accident or not, if anyone was hurt, or if they just happened to catch you driving on the roads.

    Based on that, you are at the mercy of the judge.

    Hopefully, none. The victims of cold-blooded drunk drivers are not offered any alternatives. They have to just live with the results. The drunk driver should have to do the same.
