I was honorably discharged from the Air Force a couple years back after fulfilling my service contract. Shortly thereafter, I was arrested and convicted of a DUI. This is the only negative thing on my record. Since then I have completed 2-years toward an Electrical Engineering degree with a GPA over 3.5. I'd like to enter the Navy's Nuclear Engineering Officer program. Is there hope?

first off lets put this into perspective. george w. bush has a dui conviction and he is the damn president of the u.s. so why should an officer be required to submit to any higher ethical ground that his/ her own commander in chief. just explain that you made a really dumb mistake and try to get some character statements from others or even a senator or congressmen. and learn from your mistake, dont drink and drive anymore you could have killed someone and instead of thinking of being an officer you would be someones girlfriend in prison right now. good luck!!

Even becoming an commissioned officer, you can have a DUI. Just be honest about it. And one more thing, you should do something else unless you want to be on a sub. That’s not exactly the good life.

    Yes.

Vist a campus ROTC unit and get the scoop from them. More than likely, they’ll offer you a scholarship while placing you in a "probation" status…meaning, if you don’t deviate from the law between then and graduation, you’ll be commissioned.

Question to you: Why would you want to go into the Nuke program? Fly Navy – I’ve spent a career doing it and have loved it. I’m getting ready to retire and have no regrets. Good luck what ever you do. BTW, I graduated with a BS in EE/semiconductor phyisics and IC design.
