If I get a dui conviction in alabama and am going to graduate with a civil engineering degree can I get a job?

Does this automatically bar you from employment or not? I am already depressed about the whole situation but now I am considering changing majors if I wont even be able to get a job because of one dui conviction. I am fighting the case with the best lawyer i could find so hopefully they will plea and give me a reckless driving or something just to avoid the DUI on my record.. Hell i would go to jail and do tons of community service just not to have the dui on my record. The punishment sucks but the lasting effects are what ruin your life. Dont ever ever ever ever ever drink and drive at all. its not worth it. I did it a few times and got caught like an idiot. when its really late and no one is on the road the cops see every little thing you do. they will get you. dont risk the lives of others either. But just so you know.. if you get caught better have about 10 grand to pay all the lawyers and court costs etc.. plus huge increase in insurance.. plus depression sucks too...

Due to the intelligence level of this question, I hope you get sentenced to drive over a bridge you design.

A DUI conviction should not prevent you from getting an engineering job, especially if you have sworn off drinking and driving. However, a firm to which you apply may be reluctant to hire a person who might be getting habitually drunk, because that could have an impact on your job performance.

Unless an employer asks, you do not have to mention your conviction. And paying a fine for the conviction is a lot better than doing time for a lesser charge. Jail time is deadly on your resume. A fine you don’t have to mention.

I think it can harm you somewhat.

If they have you vs. someone just like you went to same school same grades same everything -the dui. They will be more apt to pick that person. I know this isn’t what you probably want to hear but any job you apply for even if you change majors they will more than likely pick the person who doesn’t have the dui.

You do have a lawyer so he should be able to tell you.

But if you have good grades then this should not affect you that much unless you get more such violation or any other such things on your record.

Certain items are removed at certain interval from the driving record, or you may say they are berried deep. Example points.
